Would anyone out there be willing to share their experiences with two (2) DBS/STN's? I am scheduled for my second DBS in January. Have you experienced dyskinesias balancing deep brain stimulation with medications? Did you find the second DBS to be more helpful than harmful? I am also a little concerned about reducing my carbodopa/levodopa due to it's believed neuro-protective qualities. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Detrick

Okay, you guys are scaring me. Has no one survived the second operation or are you all just busy playing golf? I could really use some input. Thanks. Detrick.

Well today is my birthday...I'm 54 years old. My second DBS-STN surgery (to correct a predominate tremor on my right side) is scheduled for the 16th of January. It should be interesting to say the least, but I am up for it.

Being wide awake during my last brain surgery (for my left side) was quite a scarry experience. When they said that I was going to be only "lightly sedated" they meant it. I felt every screw of the frame, every cut and every stitch external to my skull almost as if I had not be sedated at all. It hurt!! With the inital incision, I felt a large stream of warm blood (about the size of my hand) rolling down one side of my face. Pretty gruesome stuff.

Interestingly, I felt nothing at all when the surgeon was inside my skull implanting the probe. Makes we wonder where headaches come form. After spending the night in the neuro ICU, I was released to go home the very next day about noon. I was in no pain at all. Pretty weird I thought. Oh well, wish me luck.
