Hi all,
I've never posted in the TBI area, just the hydrocephalus forum. Unfortunately, my mom has suffered quite the TBI, she has subdural hematomas on both sides and also a subarachnoid bleed. Mom is 70 yrs., I spoke with her on Monday, and had plans with her on Tuesday, when I called to say I was on my way she didn't answer. When I got to her house she was sitting on the couch and I couldn't wake her up, she just made groaning sounds. There was blood on her head and 2 very small scraped, so she must have fallen and got back up. She was sent to a local hospital and then to Detroit Recieving. Mom did have a seizure before she got to Detroit Recieving. I was not given much hope, either I just let her go or they could try surgery, but it isn't usually successful. I opted to send her to surgery and at least try. Surgery was Tuesday evening, Wednesday she was moving around and not "posturing". Yesterday she opened her eyes with stimulation and squeezed the Dr. hands. Today she is moving and pulling away with pain. I know that yesterday she was given Dilaudid for aggitation, and the Dr. wasn't happy about this because they want to see her moving and see if she will keep her eyes open. Mom is still on the ventilator, but breathing with it.
This situation is so heartbreaking. The drs. say that this is progress and as long as she is moving forward they will continue to do everything.
Did anyone have an injury this severe? I could use a bit of hope . Mom has alot of prayers going out for her and hopefully she will continue taking baby steps toward recovery. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Smitty, Yes my aunt had the same thing. 1 on each side. the one on the right was big than the left. They called us in and gave her 15 hours to live. she didn't have any surgerys at all. Will that was in March 07. She is alive and well. she is blind in the left eye. and has trouble with some words. She has came a long way. So yes there is hope. Never give up hope. My aunt is only 60 and she was in very good health before her stroke. I hope this helps. Don't get up hope or prayers. prayers is what saved my aunt.
