Hi my name is Jennifer. I guess you could say I am new here. I used to come on here to make friends, but it was like I was told that I couldn't make friends on this website, I had to need support or something. Ok, here's the thng, I have hydrocephalus and I really don't know what to tell people about my hydro, because I haven't experienced a lot of stuff like they have. I like sports, music, and talking to people. I am 23 years old and I work as a cashier at a grocery store. I go to a community college. I have a mild mental disability due to the hydro. I hope this helps people better understand what I am going through.

Hey, ((((((Jennifer)))))),
Welcome to BrainTalk http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_2_104.gif
You don't have to have a medical problem to post here. I wish no one had ever told you that; it's not true.
We've got a Hydro forum (http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=164) here which will probably become a "second home" to you. Nice people. Supportive, too.
It's hard to know how to "explain yourself" when you have chronic condition, isn't it. It's like layers of an onion -- the top layers (the people that you don't know very well -- it's none of their business). As you go deeper -- closer to the heart of the onion, you can decide what you want to tell and whom you want to tell. The very closest people to you (the heart of the onion) -- your friends, your family -- those are the ones that care about you and want to help you if you need it and want to understand what makes YOU you. Those are the ones that you can share more detail with.
One of the nice things about the internet is you get to practice how you want to act with people in your real life.
It's a whole different kind of relationship with people on the internet, though. If you spend days and years talking with people and supporting them when they're hurting and asking for support when you're hurting, you grow to have a very great love and affection for these people that become part of your life. You might not be able to recognize them if you see them on the street, but, sometimes, they know more about you than anyone else. It's a very special place to make cyber-pals and to talk out problems and to get solutions. And, to offer a hand up when you can.
You're more than welcome here. We can use everyone that wants to come here. There's people from around the world here. There's always someone up in the middle of the night looking for someone to talk to. You can help with that.
Thanks for coming back again. I'm looking forward to knowing you better and to having become part of our "family" here.
Hugs.
