Isn't this a great way for the government to spend our money???

Scientists are trying to fight global warming by changing animal flatulence. Emissions from livestock reportedly account for up to half of greenhouse gas emissions in some countries. Kangaroos have stomach bacteria that eliminate methane from their gas; scientists want to transfer these bacteria to sheep and cattle. Bonus: The bacteria could improve digestive efficiency by 10 to 15 percent, thereby reducing feed costs. Alternative proposal: Eat less cattle and more kangaroo meat: "It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels," and "it's the ultimate free range animal." (Related: HN's previous update on global warming and animal flatulence.)

I wonder how those bacteria would work as human probiotics? I could serve them for desert the next time we have chili. :D

I can't even find humor in this!

I am just too bitter I guess...

I didn't read the link (sorry!) but remember at least 20 years ago, hearing about cow farts and global warming. It's so ridiculous I can't even go there. I mean, it's a bit like blaming termites for deforestation in the Amazon (well termites only eat 'dead' wood but you know what I mean).

Also, there is so much methane that leaks from under the earth's crust into the atmosphere, if it ever surged out all at once we'd all be dead. You could feed every cow on the planet all the Hormel Chili and refried beans they could eat and the human race would still be alive (dunno if the cows would be!).

I hate to imagine how much money was spent on this study.

Mili - I have an image of Vince walking past a cow pasture saying "somebody farted somebody farted somebody farted"

HA!

I have a picture of a cow walking past you, "Somebody farted somebody farted somebody farted...and they'll blame me for the methane".

Maybe if all gas producing foods were banned, then we could cut down on global warming!!

I wonder what kangaroo tastes like?
