I was wondering, would it be (sometimes) hard to lose pregnancy weight after the baby is born? It just occurred to me, that since I will be waking up all the time to check on the baby...That'll be making my sleep routine all messy & my body's levels won't be able to regulate from proper sleep. I noticed that if I don't get enough sleep for a while, that I gain weight. Would it be the same, if I am sleeping for a couple of hours (or less) at a time?

I know breastfeeding is supposed to help with weight loss. I still wonder if the whole sleep routine will make things a little hard though.

Post pregnancy weight loss...??
I just had my baby almost 7 weeks ago. Before I got pregnant I was 112, and now I am 122. I know that isn't much of a weight gain, but it is when it is all in your hips and none of your pants fit!!

I want to start losing this weight around my hips, and I am unsure how to start out. Now keep in mind that i have a five year old a new born work third shift and baby sit during the day. I don't really have that much time to "workout". And no running around so busy and watching kids isn't helping...

So what should I do to start off to lose some weight. And to lose weight in a certain area do you need to work out those areas or will be running and walking to do it.

I have cut calories a lot but still don't know where to go from that.

Any one have any suggestions.

i guess not many people stop here, cassandra. *smallrose

well, i have lost 94 pounds over the last couple of years and maintained it for one year. i exercise 6 days a week for an hour. i ride a stationary bike to music.

they say you can't lose weight from a specific place, like your hips. women are meant to store fat in their hips because it shows we are fertile and it cushions the growing baby in utero.

you can exercise to tone your muscles and build more muscle mass. muscle weighs more than fat, but it takes up less space. so you might not lose weight, but lose inches and your pants will fit you.

i don't know if you live in a warm climate where you can go outside everyday. if you do, you could start walking with your children in a stroller for about 45 minutes a day. brisk walk. stationary bicycling will tone your legs and build muscle there. stationary bikes aren't that expensive. if you can get away and ride a bike outside for 45 minutes, that would be good, too.

as women get older, their metabolism slows also. you don't weigh that much, so cutting calories will not make that much of a difference in the short term. you probably would lose 1 pound a month, but, 10 pounds would be gone in less than a year. try eating more fish protein and chicken and lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. i also don't eat white bread, pasta or rice.

generally, move more, eat less. it might help to get a pedometer to see how many steps you are walking daily. then try to increase that amount. do yardwork and bring the children outside. play catch or jumprope with your older child. incorporating more activity will burn more calories.

midnight shift workers also tend to have a harder time losing weight, because your normal sleep rhythms are to sleep at night and be up during the day. your body clock is possibly off.

i hope some of these ideas help. if you want to post more to chat, i will check by this forum to see you.

take care of your sweet baby and your 5 year old, but first, take care of yourself.

good wishes,
jeannie

oh, also, when you are ready to deliver a baby, your pelvic bones spread so the baby can get out. i don't think once they spread that they go back. that in addition to your extra weight might be why your hips are bigger.

I have a friend who recently gave birth to her first child, a beautiful baby girl. However, she felt total despair for about a month or so, over her struggle with the post pregnancy fat on her tummy, hips, thighs and her bum. She has since lost 50 pounds and is back down to her pre-pregnancy weight of 130 lbs., after working out 3-4 times per week and only 45 min per day. She basically has a routine where obviously she pays strict attention to detail regarding her diet, and she works out daily in a neat pair of THE ORIGINAL WEIGHTED WORKOUT SHORTS FOR WOMEN that she found on eBay. She has this routine where she’ll throw on her Weighted Workout Shorts after work, and pop in her favorite Slim in 6 workout, video and that’s it. This duo combines fat burning cardio with light resistance. She has managed to drop the weight in record time and keep it off. You might be able to find both products on eBay. I’m so proud of her for her no nonsense approach. She also uses Fitness.com as a reference for different exercises that address the same problem areas. Good luck in your pursuit! Becky
