Morosely dissappointed :( The caseworker at Allie's psych agency was setting things up. The funding agency(state mental health) sent the papers to the consultant to contract her services- it all looked great. Until they found out that she is not licensed in Arizona. State requirement- no way around it. They are checking to see if the other consultant in town is licensed. I don't think she is, although she works for an autism agency, so maybe. I guess that's what I get for once again getting my hopes up...

For the cost (to you probably) of round trip plane fare only - not even travel expenses, my consultant will do it. She'll do the RDA at your home, and work with you online and on the phone for the RDI - just like us. So, no hope lost woman! It's hard enough to maintain or regain hope, so don't go losing it. She's done this for others as well. Her devotion to our kids and us parents is second to no one.
Her practice is in Illinois, she works with several other states like mine, is paid by state funds cause she is licensed as well as paid by private insurance. Keep those hopes up. I'm so sorry about the consultant in your state. If the other doesn't work out, you can always use the one we have. She's absolutely the most devoted and best anyway - just my humble opinion.

We are living paycheck to paycheck. No way to afford a consultant...anywhere. The state of AZ will only pay for those licensed in this state. The consultant i wanted to use is certified by RDI folks- but she doesn't have AZ state licensing.
That money tree out in the backyard doesn't seem to bear any fruit. :(
Allie is kinda up and down. Off risperdal (again. even the school didn't think it was helping) Increasing lamictal (carefully) and that seems to help. We had increased OCD crap here this last week and lots of sobbing- hours and hours. But, took her to doc and talked about my biofilm theory. It was a little embarrassing, because Allie's doc trains new pediatricians and he sent the trainee in to see me first ( I think he wants to see what they'll make of me  ). So, I was prepared to talk about it with Dr. Sp- but not someone who doesn't know Allie"s case. Well, I told him (the student) anyway and he seemed fine with it. So...we're trying 5 days of zithro then 5 days off, then 5 days on. Then I'm s'posed to go back and tell him how it worked and we'll go from there. We're on day three and Allie had a great day today- better than last week anyway.

Peg,
ARG! How upsetting!!!
I have to agree with Mili though-- there are ways around it!! Especially with the new RIDos *operating system* where you can connect directly with not only your consultant with your webcam or video camera, but you can even talk to Dr Gutstein and Dr.Sheely on webchats most every week.
And if they cant find someone in your town, there has to be SOMEONE in Arizona that is licensed and the OS might help you connect with that someone--- hopefully this other person out there in your town is licensed!!
Im sure Mili has more of a clue than me-- We're brand new to the RDI family-- all hope is not lost.
Praying for you!!

There are only 2 consultants in all of AZ- both here in Phoenix. The reason I think the other one is not licensed is because when I talked to her on the phone (months ago-she was the first I called) I talked about funding through the state- thought it could fall under the habilitation umbrella. She said it is NOT habilitation (still seems to me like it is)- it is remediation. I'll still go with her if I can get it paid for, but thought she was Ms. Snottylady on the phone.
My understanding with RDIos is that you have to be working with a consultant to be admitted to the "secret society". I'm feeling a bit snotty myself right now- feels like RDI is purposely conspiring to keep Allie out.( I know this isn't true- but feels like it anyway) It also seems like the older she gets, the less people are interested in helping her. Am i the only one who feels like (most of the time) Allie is not a lost cause?

If it counts at all, I don't feel that way!
I wonder if you contact someone directly at FARR or something. I would think that they'd have a pretty good idea of how to work the system.
OR have you checked back at the forum you posted about before...maybe if you post to the parents there they may have a good idea.
I would think that there must be other consultants that are licensed within AZ, maybe they aren't located in AZ though...and can consult remotely or something?????
I saw some conversations where people were looking for RDI consultants in training...perhaps there are some in training that are licensed in AZ...
I did do some searches looking for some grants, I couldn't find any...course I'm not so familiar with AZ...but I wonder if there isn't some other grant that you could apply for that wouldn't have so many 'rules' to follow...
Did you say that you have private insurance and medicaid second? If yes, I would contact your husbands benefits office...explain the situation...they may be able to advocate with the insurance carrier to cover it.
Hmmmm, what would happen if you needed to bring your mediciad covered child to a 'medical' specialist that was outside the state...I mean that must happen right? Like say Mayo or Dana Farber or something...would that get denied???? Do you think there is an appeal or exception process?
and as a completely irrelevant point...Why the heck is this woman located in AZ but not licensed there? I know that doesn't change anything...but ummmm, what gives?

What's FARR?
The consultant I wanted to use is certified as an RDI consultant. But, she is not a licensed therapist in AZ. She used to do sonrise and ABA as an habilitation worker before she trained in RDI. She's working on her psychology degree. If/when she gets that she can get a state license. RDI does not require consultants to be licensed....only to get the required training in RDI.
I'll probably start looking for another way to fund as soon as I'm done feeling sorry for myself.

Brain fart or something...I thought she was an SLP or something like that...
FARR is Gutstein's foundation.
The fact that you've got approval must be 95% of the battle..you just need someone's licensed right...there's got to be someone...I wonder if they know someone...just a thought.
