i am a 46 year old family man in the midwestern US. i had emergency surgery for a leaking aneurysm 13 months ago. i survived the surgery and by all local accounts should be (and am) very greatful for all the blessings recovery has brought me.

i am new to chatrooms, but i would like to visit with some other survivors bad enough to give it a try.

so here's my story:

norman rockwell type childhood.

no medical issues other than some tension related migrains.

then one day i learned what pain was. apearantly blood seeped through my aneurysm and caused imense pain. it took 5 days for doctors to get the correct diagnosis, but they operated the next day. surgery was successful, 2 clips, 2 plates and 4 hrs.

they had a problem with some brain spasms the next morning. i spent the next 11 days in a coma while they got me stabalized. - longest nap of my life - and some pretty vivid dreams.

after i got out of ICU, i spent a little time in neurology wing, then onto the rehab wing for 5 days. i spent a total of 3 weeks and $250,000.00. i was released to my families care but had some restrictions until i passed a few milestones.

i was back to work (part-time) a week later. i was too busy to deal with the trauma my body had incurred - lol. i closed my business on June 1, partly to give my body a chance to heal. i was told my body would continue to improve for up to a year. i have been waiting, watching and yes a lot of improving has come.

i still have some post operative headache pain. i have tried massage, chiropractic and even just started seeing a shrink. my MD will give me pretty much any drug i want to try. currently taking amitriptoline 50mg. it takes the edge off, but i'm hoping to find a more complete solution. i find myself becomming lethargic and able to sleep for long periods of time, but then also have periods of insomnia. - then there's the short term memory - ughh!

i have read a few of these messages and realize my problems are awfuly small compared to what many others are dealing with. my heart goes out to you all, and i will include you in my prayers. if you can relate to my story and/or are willing to offer some insite - well - it would be appreciated.

thanks for listening,
mike
