I must say that I was very pleased with the way that they handeled it. I was also so happy to notice that they noticed the positives in the situation.
Good Afternoon Mrs. J,
I wanted to let you know about an incident that occurred involving Kyle at the beginning of his World History Class today, Thursday, November 29. Apparently, he was "joking and playing" with two girls that are in his class and it resulted in the two girls being pushed to the ground. One of them ended up with a fairly large bruise on her arm. Allegedly, Kyle became playful and was trying to block the door. He then pushed through the girls, which caused them both to fall.
PLEASE DON'T WORRY. The girls aren't out to get Kyle and neither is anyone else. This was simply a result of horseplay that could have been avoided. One of these girls mentioned what happened to Mr. M... not to get Kyle in trouble, but because they do not understand that Kyle sometimes has a tougher time setting limits with himself. Mr. M followed up by contacting me and having the three of us discuss what happened and what types of behaviors (regarding joking and interacting with peers) are acceptable in school. Kyle did a fantastic job processing with us and understands that he will need to use better judgment in the future.
We are all aware that Kyle was not trying to hurt anyone intentionally. Mr. M and I spoke to Kyle about the incident and he agreed that he, as well as the other students involved, need to be careful and avoid engaging in horseplay in school as someone could get hurt. We also explained that it is never a good idea to try to block doors or try to push through people with force, even when no harm is meant. Kyle is not in any trouble and Mr. M will be following up with the two girls. However, future incidents where horseplay or joking becomes potentially harmful will result in the appropriate disciplinary actions.
In the meantime, I will continue to work with Kyle on how interact with his peers in a manner that will allow him to continue to establish relationships with other students. I'm very glad to see that he has become comfortable enough here where he can joke with others and enjoy the social experiences that are offered at school. This is very important for him and we would not want to discourage Kyle from connecting with others and making friends. He's a great guy and has a wonderful heart. I just want to make sure he learns the skills he'll need to interact meaningfully and appropriately with his peers.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback regarding what happened I urge you to contact me by phone or by e-mail and I would be glad to discuss this further. Thank you for your time and have a pleasant evening.
Sincerely,

Kyle said that the girls talked to him afterwards and that thye wanted him to know they did not blame him as it was just as much there fault as his and they gave him a hug. They said they would next time tell him when it was getting to be to much, they said they want to help him learn to understand how to goof off and be happy. These are 15 year old girls.
