View Full Version : Very early full feeling?

I have suffered before from feeling unbearably full after really not much to eat. For example, I'd have eaten just a sandwich for lunch and it would feel like I'd eaten a three-course meal - very uncomfortable feeling of fullness. This morning I ate a yoghurt for breakfast and felt so full it was difficult to take a breath. It's now lunchtime and I still feel full from the yoghurt and not inclined to eat even anything small for lunch.

I'm pregnant now (second pregnancy), and it seems to have stepped right up. I do know that this can be a part of pregnancy, however I'm only 15 or so weeks pregnant and I would have expected it later in pregnancy, as things grow and take up more internal room...

I've experienced this for periods of time a lot before while not pregnant, but it was relatively easy to manage then as I'd just eat very small amounts of food or not eat at all (which wasn't a huge problem as physical limitations stop me being overly active, and I'm carrying excess weight anyway).

It is worrying me because of the pregnancy, as even though I know I shouldn't be eating for two, I'm know that I'm really not eating enough because of the discomfort afterwards. My question might be OT here, because of my pregnancy, but I thought I'd put it out there... :)

I will talk to my GP/obstetrician/neurologist about this at the next appointments I have scheduled with them, but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to cope with/help this problem? NB I also get pretty painful reflux and have mild swallowing problems (relatively frequent regurgitation  - especially with certain types of food)

I'm not pregnant (not unless immaculate conception is really possible) and I've also had the full feeling after eating a small amount of food.

It's a weird feeling. I was eating a small piece of cold pizza for lunch, and I think I was only two or three bites into it when I had to set it down for a bit because I felt almost like I was going to be sick. I was able to finish it a few minutes later, but still had the uncomfortable feeling like I was going to be ill.

Strange thing is tonight at dinner, I didnt feel that way. I was able to eat a small steak, some mashed potatoes and asparagus and not feel ill. I've felt the same before. Last year just before I got diagnosed, I was getting the same feeling during just about every meal.

My doctor then, had checked my liver enzymes...slightly elevated...but other than that, there was nothing else wrong. Never got an explanation for why I felt sick while eating.

Teddy,
I have the same problem with my appetite. But I can understand your concern right now!!! Definitely have that talk with your Dr! I remember with my first pregnancy,I didn't experience morning sickness, but what I did experience was the inability to eat or digest meat, lettuce or corn! Now that was difficult!!!! I had to get the needed protein without consuming meat!!!!! I consulted a book on vegetarianism.Throughout my pregnancy,I was kept busy making mental notes of combining certain types of proteins to make 'complete' proteins, making sure I didn't miss taking my daily prenatal vitamin, and not taking in any empty calories! :p Fortunately, the other two pregnancies were each succeedingly easier! :)

Hi there. :-) Two different things could be going on, based on my own experience. First, the one related to MS. I have gastroparesis, which is the fancy term for everything moving verrrrrrry slowly. You can have official testing which will tell you how slowly your GI system is working. Ask your doctor about it. You will get a handout for the most boring diet on earth. :-)

Aside from that, I have GERD, although the dx surprised me since I have no sensation of it and didn't know. But when the GI guy did an endoscopy he saw all the evidence apparently. So for that you can take meds.

He also said I have gastritis. I never asked much about that. But I guess that must also cause similar symptoms.

Teddy, congrats on the pregnancy. :-) My experience was that my reflux was *much* more severe with my second and third babies. Forget about lying down to rest -- it makes such a difference to stay as upright as you can, leaning back on pillows.

I made sure to take good multivitamins so I wouldn't feel so bad about eating, but then I tried to find food I could manage to eat without getting sick. It's not easy. But hang in there. I'm so excited for you. I wish I could have had more little ones. :-)

Interesting site you might benefit from -- you can enter any meds you're taking and see how they might affect your unborn baby: http://www.safefetus.com/Search.asp

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Gastroparesis makes some sense to me, as I have all the symptoms, but I will definitely have a chat to my doctors about it and see what's going on. The boring diet would probably do me the world of good... Sigh. I love food!

Teddy, congrats on the pregnancy. :-)

Thanks Bluesky :) ! It was a bit of a shock, since my daughter is almost nine but I'm very excited too!! My daughter is so excited to be a big sister, I'm sure she will be a huge help once the baby is born.
