In just a couple weeks Katie will be 1 year seizure free. :) :)
I don't THINK that what I am seeing is drop seizures, but I can't say for sure they are not as I have not been right with her when this happens. I THINK (hope) that she is just losing her balance and falling. But it's so sudden... I don't know. At least 3 times this month, maybe 4 or 5 times, I don't know, we hear a big boom and Katie starts to scream and cry. She has fallen flat on her face... fallen forward from either crawling, quadruped, or W sitting.
There doesn't seen to be any loss of consciousness. It's face bam/scream. Is there loss of consciousness typically with drop seizures. Even just a couple seconds? Because there isn't with Katie. How about any post ictal symptoms? See it's hard to say because at least twice she's went to sleep a little bit after, but she was already sleepy/nap time. But I could get her calmed and she played and was happy before she went to sleep.
We see neuro in a couple weeks. I will keep an eye on it and I THINK it is just falling/balance. Is there a way to tell (other than eeg) any thing for me to look for? If I am facing her, will her eyes roll or anything?

There does appear to be a moment of lost consciousness for Jimmie...a half second before the head drop. There is no warning. There is no post ictal. He just goes right back to what he was doing as if nothing happened.
Taft never loss conciousness with his drop seizures. he would be walking and fall, cry then get back up. (when he fell he fell on his bottom) He was haveing 10 to 20 a day , and it turned out that the seizure medicine he was on causes drop seizures in many with his genetic condition so we switiched it and they went away immediately.

Drop seizures have a sudden loss of muscle tone, usually no LOC and often no PI at all...they can look like they are shoved from above and have no reaction to catch themselves at all. They are so sudden they have no TIME To catch themselves. That is why they are so scary since there is no time for them to catch (plus they have the highest chance for injury since they can hit on things near them as they fall and are sheer dead weight).....it can be the head drops as well....
I sure hope this is not what you are seeing with Kate!!

When riley has drop seizures there is no (or a super short) time of lost conciousness. She falls- cries- gets back up. Sometimes she doesn't even cry, just boom and back at whatever she was doing. They are sudden, no warning, and no PI time after.
Teh falls aren't really "natural" falls either, they are more like she has been jerked down. There is a visable difference between when she loses her balance and has a drop.
If you happen to see one does Katie look like she is trying to get balance at all as she goes down or does she just lose all muscle control and go down?
I am not sure if there is any real way to know other than EEG, and since you already know her EEG is abnormal (didn't is show generalized activity?) that may not even be THE way to tell.
I really hope she isn't having drops, they are terrible.

I caught a typical head drop in this video. We are convinced that a helmet is becoming necessary.

(((Hugs))) I have no drop seizure experience. I pray Katie doesn't either.

We hope and pray that miss Katie is not having any seizures.
With Grant he often has drop seizures. His ones are very brief lasting perhaps 10 seconds at the most. What happens is that he completely loses muscle tone for a few seconds. He will stop breathing for a few seconds and then make a big sigh and start breathing. He does lose consciousness for a couple of seconds.
Best wishes and please give miss Katie a super duper special 'down under hug' :)
With love from all of us.
Paul, Alison and Grant the champ.

Matt had drops when he was little. They are hard to describe but it was clear when you saw one that he didn't just fall...most of the time anyway. On occasion he was post ictal but mostly he just picked up and carried on. I think he had them as a baby too but at those times he would just go limp in my arms. I didn't know they were seizures at the time...just thought he had fluctuating tone or something.
Anyway, hope we don't cause any more worry. It really is hard to know for sure without seeing them. A year seizure free is huge to celebrate so we don't want any little 'instances' to cloud that joy.
all the best to your family and to Katie.
