So, while all four of my kids are sick with one thing or another this weekend (fevers, coughs, croup, migraines)...of course since dh is away...I'll tell you about Matt. He has croup. I was going to keep him and zech home friday for croupy cough but they both said they were fine for school. Zech is "okay" but Matt went downhill. clinic Friday pm to check lungs/ears/throat...yes, possible strep, definite croup. Okay. Sat. ...miserable but cousin's 16th bday at her house. went there to lay on her sofa evg. as pumped full of meds so coping. What does he do? go icy cold (had a fever) and mottly/pale and nail beds blue with full 5 sec capillary refill time. Same time resps shot up to 60 so I decided to get him checked out. only ER open. FULL. They saw him and took him if front of everyone saying he was the sickest one there. I was only expecting to check O2 levels...

anyway, at relatives house, the husband saw him and said 'be careful, he looks like he's about to have a seizure'. Now, he knows nothing about seizures except that Matt had them in the past. it was just a weird comment to make. Then when I got to ER and told the nurse he'd gone blue, she said, well, has he had seizures before because that sounds like a seizure. she said that knowing nothing about Matt except he had a fever and croupy cough and nails had gone blue with increased resp rate. Now, do you think God is using these people to tell me I need to evaluate Matt again for seizures or what? just too weird.

anyway, in the end they gave him decadron (power steroid) and tylenol and instuctions to come back if he deteriorated.

Then, part two. come to get Noah from cousin's and he and Zech were coughing but okay. Wakes at 4am with fever 102. Bring him to my bed with Matt to cough in my face all night. but at least I'd know he was breathing. but wouldn't you know it? he just kept twitching and twitching. Noah does NOT handle fevers well.

anyway, just had to tell you all this. better get back to my nursing duties.

all the best everyone,
Lucinda

Just remember that illness can drop seizure threshhold. Hopefully, this is only going on because he is sick. But, it's definitely something to monitor. Hope everyone is better soon.

I haven't been able to get online until now. Wow, some weekend you are having. :( What does Matt say about it, did he feel seizury? Are you still able to get back into a neurologist? I seem to remember that Matt was "graduated" from neuro since the seizures seemed to be gone?

Rachels always had febrile seizures when she was young, but the funny thing is, they weren't when temp. spiked instead it was always when they went down.

((((((hugs))))))

(((Hugs))) I hope everyone is feeling better. So sorry for more of your "is it a seizure or isn't it?" mess. Tom now has febrile seizures, but it's only at the onset of illness. Once that initial fever spikes and he has a seizure, we're "done" for that illness. Tylenol bringing down the fever, and wearing off, and the fever spiking again doesn't trigger another one. (Thankfully.) I'm not sure if that's typical or not for febrile seizures.
