Normally pregnancy can cause feeling of nausea or vomiting commonly known as morning sickness. But if the nausea or vomiting is extremely severe this is termed as Hyperemesis gravidarum. This leads to lose of weight and can even cause dehydration. The cause of hyperemesis gravidarum is still unknown. As the situation can become life threatening, it may require hospitalization for constant monitoring of fluids levels in the body. She is administered with glucose, electrolytes, and occasionally vitamins. Women who have this complication are not allowed to eat or drink anything for at least 24 hours.
