When some placenta remains inside the uterus you will need to be hospitalized dilation and curettage (also known as D&C) operation. The cervix will be opened with general anesthetic, and uterus will be emptied. Incomplete miscarriage occurs most commonly between 6 and 12 weeks of pregnancy. Once the uterus is empty the cervix closes, the pain stops and the bleeding slows down and should stop by seven days. But if it continues to bleed after that time, or the patient experience temperature, pain or odour, she should immediately go to a doctor. This may be due to some infection and if not treated it can have an effect on future pregnancies.
