It's been known prior to 1968, that Vitamin B1 is a successfull treatment for a brain wasting disease PEM - Polioencephalomalacia - in livestock. Several of our sheep were diagnosed with this Encephalopathy in 2001 - but died before they could be treated. The treatment for PEM - said that 250 mls VB1 was not good enough - but 400mls was a successfull dose, given to the livestock by intravenious or muscular injections.
Another twist to my research - I found I was suffering symptoms similar to our sheep - research found the sheep and my illness were caused by different causes - theirs from eating toxic grass - mine from injury to my head and spine, years before my symptoms became a worry.
I didn't think I could inject myself, so experimented with VB1 tablets. I took 250mgs. VB1 tablets - 3 or 4 times a day, which suppressed my symptoms within minutes - for a few hours. I was very ill.
After a couple of months, I was only holding my own - when I read about the increased dose for livestock - so I gradually rose the VB1 over a few days, to 500mgs. per dose - 3 or 4 times a day. It took 18 months of experimentation, research, trial and error, before the symptoms started to reverse. It took another year to gain reasonably good health. I had many tests - nothing was found to cause my symptoms - I think now, that I must have had some type of Encephalopathy.
I wonder if doctors know about this treatment?

My father told my medical team the same thing about B1 and B12 but it fell upon deaf ears. They treated me as recommended, but I think it was more to appease dear ol' dad, than as a believed in treatment.

G'day David - I wonder what your symptoms were and what was your doctors diagnosis?
How much VB1 did you take?
Any other details may help someone else who's ill and not getting better.

Perhaps the doctors are overlooking the simple treatment of Vitamin B1 for an Encephalopathy illness.
