Ian,
No, I've never experienced that. It sounds horrible!
Do you mean that you've experienced it again? Or are you just trying to figure out what was going on?
How are you doing today?
Hope you get your answers,
Cathy

shunt failure.
boy is it scary.
Austin has had many shunt failures, his first one he was just confused and could not answer simple questions, he was dazed, then came the headache and the ER.(3 revisions in 3 weeks, and 4 weeks in hospital.)
a few shunt failures were slamming headaches and no speech. (revisions)
some were headaches to no body function, feeling like he had to go to the restroom but not being able to ( for over 24 hours) confused, to mute, then to not moving at all. Had to be carried out of the car to ER (revision)
flips me out.
headaches, ataxia, terrible head pain, ER (revision)
Austin has had grandmals where he stops breathing, nothing moved he did not talk for over 24 hours
Austin had one time a terrible headache, rested in bed, woke moaning, walked to car, 1/2 way to hospital he stopped talking, was breathing but was limp, they ran him to the operation room through the ER, his shunt was very clogged.( revision)
I hate shunt failure, it can be slow and almost unnoticeable, to so fast you must be flown out in a helicopter.
I think everyone needs to know the different ways others have had shunt failures, for Austin most of these shunt failures, he does not remember the worse times, but with you Ian it seems you felt and remembered it all, and that is very stressful It is hard to live through and with shunt failure, it can seem to be looming in the distance, so it is good to be aware
Hugs
Deborah

:) Sorry I went on......:o not meaning to be confusing
but when I read your post it sounded like Shunt failure to me or intermittent shunt malfunction.
so i listed Austin's shunt failures, I guess it is PTSD on my part:D
Hope you are doing well

Deborah
