Anyone?

I've been taking Methyl B12 (and acidopholous) at 100mg for 100 days, now swapped to 500mg - bloomin' expensive - so I hope it works!!

Nothing obvious yet - anyone else tried it/trying it/considering trying it?

Hello, JeanC just put a lot of info on B12 onto my thread, her info and mine about my exp. with B12 are the last 2 posts.
My title is: New w/ ?'s about med rash, insomnia & nursing a toddler
Hope you find some things in it new & helpful.
I will keep you posted about starting B12 myself.
Good luck & I am keeping my fingers crossed so we can pass on success stories!

Simple answer is yes, but the more complicated one is that I take B12 in several ways. But whatever I'm taking is based on results of a blood test which is done periodically - checking on other things as well. I actually think that shots are maybe the most effective, usually I can take the cheaper form of tablet as long as I am eating plenty of yogurt. I happen to like yogurt and use it in cooking esp Indian food. Does it help? How would we know what helps unless we stop? And I'm not volunteering to be a guinea pig.

Actually I was given periodic B12 shots when I was a child and was always fascinated by the fact that as soon as the needle went into my arm I could taste liver in my mouth. I don't have any idea why, because as often happens with children I suppose I was told that it was good for what ailed me so pull up my sleeve. Nancy

5mg is equal to 5000 mcg and these would be a more normal amount

If you mean 500mcg then vitacost do 300x500mcg fairly reasonably but I expect Iherb and vitaminlife are similar however to the UK the postage makes a huge difference so I have to do some complicated sums before I order.
Do have a look on the Vitamin and Mineral Deficiency (http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=70) board where Rose and Crytears know what they are talking about. B12 isn't my area of expertise so it would be worth investigating threads such as this. (http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18472)

I have never tried Methyl B12, but I have been using Nature's Bounty Vitamin B Complex Sublingual Liquid (it goes under the tomgue for 30 seconds). I haven't noticed a big difference with my TN but it pretty much eliminated my peripheral neuropathy and the fatigue I have suffered for years.

Yeah it't 5000mcg! Duh....

I get it from Bursting with health - they are a vile cherry flavour and go under the tongue/chewed. They are about £35 for 60 - so any cheaper sources would be great!!

edt - looked at the US sources - works out a LOT cheaper, esp given the good exchange rate - thank you!!

Niki, ask a question get a ton of answers. I've actually had no need to compare the different forms and means of dosing so anything I contribute is not based on experimental attempts to distinguish them. In fact, I can't even assure anyone that supplemtents work for me; I think we do it because it might be helping and is unlikely to be hurting. But with all the posts you have at least a range of experience to draw from, I hope that you find something that helps with your pain.

Jean, if you're checking posts, what's the possibility of compounding pharmacists creating a B12 supplement? I have been really interested in that as a delivery system for meds ever since you first wrote about it. I see that a Parkinson's drug and even something for Alzheimers are now out in patch form.

Thanks for starting a new thread with this subject, Niki, and thanks for the links to the Vitamin and Mineral Deficiency forum, Ted - very interesting!

Jean, if you're checking posts, what's the possibility of compounding pharmacists creating a B12 supplement? ...

Yes, I'm still here, Nancy. And as soon as I searched on "vitamin B12" and "transdermal delivery," up came an ad for an over-the-counter, commercial B12 Patch! Called, simply, "B12 Patch". And when I came here to reply, it showed up in the Google Ads above as well. I don't know anything about it - best ask your doctor and/or pharmacist. Looks kind of expensive to me, but one patch lasts a week. Check it out and then talk to some compounding pharmacists and see what they say - maybe theirs are more effective, if not cheaper. There were also some creams and such listed, but I'll let you all search for yourselves.

I don't have my conference materials with me at the moment, but will check in there in a week or so to see if there's anything about compounding and B12. Here's some compounding pharmacy info from a thread last March about capsaicin, topical meds, and compounding (http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?p=75926#post75926) -

Professional Compounding Centers of America at 800-331-2498

International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists at 800-927-4227 or www.iacprx.org (http://www.iacprx.org).

There's a section on compounding in Striking Back starting at page 162 and some good articles over at the TNA website that are probably better than my trying to relay the presentations from the conferences. Here is one link to three articles in succession -

http://www.tna-support.org/newlook/sgl_files/library/compounding.htm

There's an email address given in the second article of the above link for a compounding pharmacist in Alaska who has compounded topical meds for TN and is willing to work with your compounder if yours is not familiar with TN meds.

Also, note that the vBulletin software automatically searches for thread titles with matching keywords so that at the bottom of a thread, after all the replies and the quick reply box and the posting rules box, is a "similar threads" box with a list of threads with the same keywords - eg. scroll to the bottom of the page you're on now as you read this post and you'll see links to two other threads with "methyl-B12" in the title. You can click on those links to read what others in all of BT have posted about the subject. It helps if you title your threads carefully with well chosen keywords so vBulletin does this searching for you.
