Hello all.
I've almost recovered now after nearly TWO YEARS of suffering and will have to take seizure medication for the rest of my life. Although this is a well-documented side-effect of Topamax no doctor would admit this was the case until just a month ago.

I'm at 150mg of Lamictal a day and it's working very well. I owe my life to that doctor. After almost 2 years of seizures my life should be back to normal by February or March, 2008.
Thanks again to Pamster, Barngoddess, Blindblessings and Laura. Your support has meant so much! :o
More updates as things improve!

Did you ever have testing while using the Topamax for bicarbonate levels?
This drug causes metabolic acidosis in many people. And acidosis can cause seizures.

I know about this but to my knowledge it was never checked. I just had multiple blood tests and was always told it was normal. Until after I used Effexor. Then the tests started coming back indicating I was going slowing hypothyroid.
That's interesting. I didn't know that. Obviously that last specialist hit the nail on the head 'cause I'm feeing so much better now! I can't wait until the Lamictal REALLY does the job. 3 months to go! (or a little more)
BTW - LOVE your signature! Cute.

Well...
I'm currently up to 325mg of Lamictal/day. It's had amazing results but there's still need improvement. Unfortunately I seem to be getting more and more sensitive to the dose increases so I'm dropping back to 300mg/day and combine it with Neurontin. According to the specialist who diagnosed the condition, a combination of the two anticonvulsants should finish the job. He had suggested Lyrica but there seem to be more side effects and, considering the sensitivity I seem to have to certain medications, my family physician and I feel more comfortable using Neurontin.
28 months and counting...not so bad! LOL

Hi Pamster. Nice to hear from you. I hate to burst your bubble but things have taken a turn for the worse in more ways than one.

I'm so sorry you're going through this again Doc, hang in there, maybe it will get better soon. I wish this would just go away for you, but sometimes things just won't go away and we have to just cope with it until it gets better, I sure hope this gets better for you soon Doc. Thanks for posting a new update, I missed that one because I never post in that forum. Bless your heart for all you've been through. :(
