how do they know if you had a stroke?

Before I get more into the tests,, can the doctors tell if I really had a stroke or stroke like episode in the past? Can they tell how long ago? People that know me are convinced a had a stroke or those so called mini strokes. My wreck was so close to the same time period, so I don't know if my problems are from a fractured back, or a stroke. I would feel like a real idiot saying all these things are from my head issue, when infact its from the wreck, or the other way around. My arm doesnt work right, its numb, dead, twitchy, hard to use the mouse or type. I can't talk to people at the speed I want to; the words won't come out, or i cant even find the words. Anything that involves light, the tv, monitor, windows, anything, seems to leave a burn out image in my eyes when i close them. Its like when you stare at a black and white pic, then focus on a white wall and the image appears.
The ct states it looks like I had a past hemmorage. Will I ever know if I did? I don't really care if I had one, I just want my arm to work right and quit talking like im on drugs.

I believe a MRI will tell them if you did or not.
As when Ray had his last one in Sept. the Dr's wanted him to see a neuro because they saw something that wasn't grouped with the hemorrage.. and said that a neuro would know more of what it means..
