My DH is looking into jobs over there with the gov. We would get housing and all base privileges even the Dr's. But my concern is my meds And the Dr 's over there. I don't know how they would work with my meds. If any one know about how things are done over seas please let me know.
Thanks

Deb, You have two options. You can get your meds through a military base pharmacy and your meds will be the same or you can go through the country's pharmacies and can have access to meds we don't have approved here yet. I don't have any recent experience but have talked to a couple of people that went to Germany for ADR and they had no problems with their meds.

Deb--
You need to talk to your doctors in depth about that one and figure out your options.
I would also double check about recieving military medical. If you were to be allowed to recieve it; then there is a lot more to think about. My guess, and I am only guessing, is that since he will be working for the government and granting you may get base priveledges there is a possibility that you may have to go through some sort of overseas screening---just like the military and there dependents do.
I know, since my husband is active duty, and we are headed to Japan within the next year, the gaining command (overseas)/government is basically taking "responsibilty" of sorts, for all my medical, and other needs. I (and my husband) had to go through an extensive screening process (medical, dental, financial and others) since he is being stationed overseas withing the next year and his orders are accompianed (just means I am allowed to move with him). This is done because they need to make sure any services one may need is avaliable. Not all bases and base hospitals are equipped to deal with complicated medical situations and, unlike one of the other posters said, not every medication that is avaliable in the states will be avaliable overseas.
Again, the whole overseas screening thing is just a guess-- and that is strictly assuming you will be recieving military medical. I would double check on that.
Its a complicated process and can very frustrating at times (btdt)--but the goal is to make sure the things you need are avaliable.
You and your husband also need to find out, in detail, where he will be based, what types of facilities, exactly who will be doing what--in terms of medical and other services and policies are--if you will be officially be "sponsored" by the military, etc etc.
Please PM me if you have any specific questions on screening, services and what not.

I know military very well. My x was in for 20 years. In which I was married to him before he went in and was married to him after he got out. We had 4 kids and only 2 born military. But I never went over seas with him. He went over for a year and that was all the over seas that was done. Was in the states all the other years. I know about medical facilities here in the states. Our first born was born with heart defect and had to have a few surgery's. No military hospital touched her there wasn't any one that could any way. So I know the military part for the states but not over seas. I know it will not be the same. And yes the medical is covered. I was taking back on that myself. We well be a one of the biggest Army base in Gremany. I just didn't know how they do things over seas. I guess I will have to look up things and ask a lot of question myself.
Thank you so much for the info. I hope we can do this move. DH will be near his daughter for the first time in 15 years. She live in Gremany. I just want to be able to have good Dr's.

Deb,
If you want, I can talk with my husband. He lived on several bases in Germany through the years (Army). I wasn't married to him then. But just let me know what base it is and I can at least ask...to get his opinion. Of course it has been a few years but I think he might have some good input. :) I also think GNW did a great job with her explanation.

Deb--
About the doctors-- try to find the hospitals website to see what kind of care is avaliable-- meaning what specialties, services, etc. Then, call or email them, so you can ask any specific questions, how they deal with certain medical conditions and even possibly ask if you could speak with a doctor if you have specific concerns and such.
Another thing you might want to do is try contacting whomever will be handling the move/job and ask if you need to do any sort of overseas screening. The purpose of the overseas screening (the medical part) is basically to see if they have the facilities/doctors that can accomodate you needs. Even if you don't have to have overseas screening, you'll want to make sure the care you need is avaliable-- hence the above paragraph about calling/emailing the hospital. If the military hospital doesn't have what you need, ask them (the hospital) or whomever is helping with the move process, how to go about getting the care you need at an outside facility. The last thing you need is to be somewhere new and have something happen or need something and not have a plan.
I am saying all of this not in an obnoxious way and I hope I am not offending you, but like you said you have experience with the military, but not with overseas move. So, while dh and I aren't moving to Germany, we are moving overseas to another country (that has good medical facilities) and all the things I am mentioning are things we've had to go through and deal with in terms of having to do overseas screening, making sure the medical care I need is avaliable, physicians, etc. Its been a long and crazy process and while I know there will probably be some more bumps in the road; its also been an exciting process and we are looking forward to it and all the amazing opportunities it will bring.
Good Luck !

Deb,
I'm sure things will work out for you and I'm happy for you and DH. It sounds like this could be exciting providing you get the care you need.
GNW has give you some great pointers on where to start this process.
This is such a great place to get wonderful information for just about anything we need. Thanks to everyone who provides all this information!!

lisa, kathi Yes she did very well. Great info. Going to print it all out so I can look back to see if I did things right. I can't go somewhere if I can't get what I need.
I will ask DH today the name of the Army Base. He told me but that don't mean any thing woth me.LOL I have to have it wrote down.
