Well, we had completely weaned Jimmie off of the Keppra, and he was solely on Depakote. It had been maybe 2 weeks. Friday, he had several seizures (like 8 or 9 - compared to the 2-3 he had been having). It was too late to call the neuro. The trend continued all weekend. I called on Monday...too late to talk to anyone, but I left a message. I wanted to know if we could add the keppra back as the two drugs together seemed to help more than either by itself. Kristin, Dr. Stack's nurse, called me back Tuesday morning and told me to add the keppra back at 200 ml 2 times per day. I started immediately. Yesterday he had maybe 3-4...so definitely improvement. Today he has had a pretty hard atonic seizure...but I took his picture and he does have photosensitive seizures. I wasn't expecting that hard a drop though. He seemed fine though. He just sat back up and continued to play. I almost don't count the photosensitive seizures. Almost. They don't worry me quite as much...maybe because I know what causes them.

When we first started on Keppra, Tom was on Depakene (the liquid version of Depakote). We went for close to two months with Depakene and a small dose of Keppra. That's the only time Tom was on two meds for more than the transition time. After that two months though, we went in for our regular appt and our neuro recommended trying Keppra monotherapy, and Tom did fine on it. (And then I became a diet nut, and you know the rest.;)) Anyway, I just remember all the breakthroughs we were having on Depakene and the small addition of Keppra making a wonderful difference.

I hope the re-addition of Keppra gives Jimmie some more control.

Oh, I am so sorry that you had to add it back!

I hope it works great, and Jimmie has a nice, long seizure-FREE streak!
