Hi. i am sorry to hear of your aneurysm especially at such a young age. its o.k. to be worried we all did at one time or another,a natural human reaction to startling news. if you go back and research the post you will read many on how people dealt with the losing hair. especially females and you will find a lot of good ideas on how to deal with it. you will read of some creative things to do and most people won't even know you had surgery. also if your surgery is soon the hair may grow back out by prom time. when is the surgery date and when is prom time? the hair is removed only at the surgery site in most cases so you may not lose much at all. ask your doctor about this;how much will they shave? i am sure he/she will understand your concern and be able to answer just how much hair will be removed. God Bless........ Kyria Dylan

Hey! I am sorry about your aneurysm. I am about to have surgery soon too (3 weeks from tomorrow). Have you spoken with your neurosurgeon about your desire not to lose your hair? My NS said he would just part my hair and make the incision--he never shaves heads. Be honest with your boyfriend and talk about it with him before so he knows what is going on with you. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery for homecoming!

the aneurysm is on the outside of my skull and its about 1 1/2 centimeters in diameter and its in one of the main vessels that feeds to my brain i guess.

*bunch I am so sorry about your aneurysm!! You are so young! I am so glad they found it before it ruptured!! How did you find out you have one?? I know it is very scary, we will all be here for you any way we can!! There are a few things the Dr. can do to help you to keep from losing hair. Mine gave me a script for steroids, zantac and benadryl to help me and it really helped a lot. I hope that you are able to go to your homecoming, don't worry about how you look hun!! The main thing is your healing!! The ones who love you don't care how you look, just your heath!!! Most Dr's try to minimize the scaring!! They can also give you something for anxiety if that is a problem!! I am 2 years post rupture and surgeries. We all understand how you feel sweetie!! We will help you any way we can!! I will be keeping you in my prayers!!! Please keep us posted and let us know if you have any questions?? When is your surgery?

*cg20 God bless you hun, we will all be praying for you!! Tricia

Ashley...During your recovery, you will need to "exercise" your brain by reading, having conversations, puzzles, etc. This will help sharpen cognitive processing. This is a great little device that I think is the coolest.

:) How are you doing?? Just thinking about you and wondering if you have found out anything new? You know we are all here and understand what you are going through. ;) Do not be surprised if the people around you don't quite understand, many do not, or it takes a while for it to sink in for some? Don't take it personally. We are here if you need someone to talk to!! I hope to hear from you soon, let us know how you are?? I will be keeping you in my prayers hun!! Tricia

Excellent, excellent point Tricia. Many people, especially close family will avoid the subject or more seriously, stop communicating with you because the pain and fear of "losing you" is too much to bear. This can be involuntary on their part and don't even know they are hurting you. What can help is to try and act normal to them and not to bring up anything annie related. Let them bring it up when they start getting comfortable. Make your conversation quick and complete but then move on to something uplifting and positive...LIKE SHOPPING!!!
In time they will see that you are well with this and the positive conversations linked with the annie will soon open the door for the sunshine and they will get start getting comfortable with talking about it. I hope this helps. *bunch

Here's the deal. Yeah, you have this operation -which sucks I know! I'm sorry for that. Look at it this way... Soon you will be on the other side of recovery and getting back to your old self. You won't have to worry about your health anymore and that my friend will be very good for your mental health as well. I am seriously glad that you are have your surgery now instead of later (if it ruptured) or instead of earlier because technoligy and the medical world is far more advanced now than 15 years ago, when you were born... That is a good thing. They will be able to take care of you with percision and quality... this is good.

Secondly, the hair thing is kinda a bummer... But I am 27 and I had a brain surgery when I was 8 (I wore hats and sported my hair really short) Now that I am 27... I am actually excited to shave my head and sport short hair because I have to... What other time would I ever cut my hair this short? Never would I do it! But now, I am forced to... I am even concidering dieing my hair a random color or my friends said I should start dreading it (which I would never do, but they said I could attach the dreads to my hats afterwards to look cool)... I will also take some rad (studio) black and white pictures afterwards to document this time in my life... (if you lived near me I would take this pictures bc I'm a photographer, in fact we could take them together (I have surgery on Nov. 30th) It's gonna be cool for my kids to see someday. So look on the bright side, this will all be over with soon and you will be sporting a rad scare (with stories forever) and some rad hair.

Be encouraged Girl. You can do this.

Hi Ashley,

I just got out of my craniotomy this past Thursday and I am amazed out how well I feel and look. Yes - LOOK! Originally the kids said I could go for thr 'Goth' look. :) Today I went out in public and felt very glamorous (will be good for any of your wanting to look beautiful occasions cause I know you can feel that way after an operation like this). The sense of well being will be enhanced along with how truly beautiful you will be. I did a nice scarf along kind of like a headband track and it looked good. I feel so splendid that this is over with and within a week feel like I can take anything on as long as I do it at a nice speed for me and pay attention to the I think I should close my eyes time. Keep posting, bless you! :) donna
