Hi All,
Ive not been around much as the pain has been to unbearable to sit at the computer and read and type. It has been 12 weeks know since the neuroligist stopped my medication and my time has been hell. The pain has just increased and increased. An I am still waiting for the appointment to see the professor.
It got that bad that in the end I arranged and appointment at the hospital the see the consultant who stopped my medication. He has agreed to increase the amitriptaline by 10ml for now and he is sending a medication programme to my gp so he can prescribe me them.
He said it will take at least 3 weeks to sort out though I am really fed up with it as I am struggleing to keep going. I will let you know what medications they prescribe, when they prescribe them and I will let you know when the appointment finally comes.

Wow I'm really sorry to hear you are having such a hard tie,
Why is this Dr saying it will take about 3 weeks to straighten out, that is beyond belief.
Any Dr that will tell a patient they can just suffer for 3 more weeks is full of something and it sure isn't compassion.
Can't your GP go ahead and Rx something for the pain just to get you through until them?
I hope that your able to get help soon, my heart goes out to you, I know all to well what it's like.
Good Luck,
Linda

Spikey,
I agree with Linda, you should not have to suffer in pain for another 3 weeks while that DR gets his all his ducks in a row! I would try your GP, as Linda said, and see if they can't give you some kind of relief during this "3 week waiting period".
Best wishes,
Kim

Natalie,
Gosh what a horrible ordeal you're going through. I have to agree with everyone else, why should you suffer a minute longer?
If you just went to your PCP and told him/her what's going on with you do you think they would help?
Take care and please do keep us posted on how you're doing.
don't mean to intrude, but what is PCP? I have been going over my records I got at the PM and he has refered me to my PCP???? No, he must have dreamed it. I'm finding all kinds of things going on with me that I didn't know.
Sorry. Now back to Natalie. I realize things are done different when you live, but this is awful for you. I hope they get things straight for you soon.
good luck, Jo

I agree with Linda too. I to was taken off my mend last Feb. I went from vicadin to tramadol. I was in so much pain I couldn't stand it. I was this way for 4 month. But I did some checking on my Doc and found out he was being investigated by the DEA. That is why he stopped my meds. But he did send me to PM which was the best thing he ever did.

Natalie,
First and foremost, that is just wrong! How can the leave you suffering in pain?? So not right.
I'm confused though. Amitriptyline is Elavil which is just an anitdepressant. Why would raising that slightly help with pain meds you weren't given?? I can see that it would help you deal with the pain and help you sleep, but that is all. That is no where near enough help. Surely they can at the very least get you in for an appt asap so you can get meds actually prescribed for pain. What did they take you off of?
I hope they get you in very soon and it is resolved.
Good luck,
Suzanne

Natalie,
I feel for you...I know it is awful! Since the docs had you stop the meds to identify the triggers, I probably would end up at an Emergency Room to get a shot of Toradol! I hope this gets resolved pretty soon and the Elavil helps.
Suzanne,
Elavil is sometimes used to treat nerve pain. I don't think it is enough either. But Natalie originally said she had to stop all meds. :(

Ah man....My first 18 months of torture was you need more amitryline...ArGHHH,,....Then when I couldn't sleep cause of those nasty night terrors EVERY night..They changed it it's lovely cousin.-Nortrytaline,,After increasing this for ages with no releif...I fired the idiot...Now maybe some of these old SSRI's work for some but they didn't touch my nerve pain at all....They put me in a sleep and I dreamed horrible nightmares, Bloody- monsters- attacking-non-stop -violence..My husband woke me up every night cause I was screaming in my sleep or crying..Oh yes, did I mention the weight gain..30 pounds in 3 months...I turned into a chocoholic. a 3 pounder box every 3 days...And I don't like chocklate !!! It was a total nightmare for me,,and i will never forget it...That was the nice Doc that said aneurysm don't hurt unless they burst...Hmmm, I paid this man, 200 bucks a visit,,Thought he was the best, Cause he was at the Cleveland Clinic...The first visit was even more...What a joke..Good luck,,Run,,,,,Do not walk,,,Cindy

Natalie, sorry to hear they are being more responsive to your pain but hope that you get some help soon.
Folks, this is one of the big problems with socialized medicine. We better be careful about what we wish for in this next election or we will destroy a system instead of improving our system. Just look at the wait times in Canada, England, France, Wales, and any other socialized medicine country.

They took me off tramadol, dyhydrocodine and carmezapine, they were not really helping but they were just taking the edge off things

For the first 11 months after my injury, i ate bottles and bottles of ibuprophen as no doctor wanted to rx any pain meds. It sucks and, in my opinion, is unethical.
i hope you get some actual relief soon.
