I have been on it for a couple of months now and feel much better but I want to see what other's experiences have been like and how bad the withdrawel can be. Any info appreciated. :)

Pamster - first of all, I am happy to hear that you are feeling better with the Paxil. I took Paxil as well and although it helped my anxiety, I am left with permanent oromandibular dystonia from using it. I think the relationship between medication-induced movement disorders and anti-depressants has not been studied enough and there are still doctors who refuse to believe that these drugs cause dystonias, dyskinesias, tremors, etc...but search the FDA database for adverse events related to Paxil and you will find literally hundreds of adverse effects, from movement disorders to attempted/completed suicides to the drug just plain not working.

I have had people argue with me that these drugs do more good than harm and that's probably true, but obviously not from where I sit. You would be ahead of the game if you thoroughly research the side effects and know what to look for before it's too late. I thought my jaw problem was TMJ -- maybe if I'd caught it sooner and quit the Paxil, the permanent damage would not have been done. I did not have any trouble getting off the Paxil, but from what I understand, many people do.

I wish you the best of luck. Please keep me posted! :)

hey pam!

i withdrew from paxil earlier this year after being on it for about 2 years.

i was taking 10 mg. once a day. my primary care physician weaned me from it over about an 8 week period. cutting my dosage in half for 2 weeks, then half every other day for 2 weeks than every 2nd day for 2 weeks and if i wanted to, every 3rd day for 2 weeks. i did it every 3rd day for 2 weeks because i wanted to.

the only problem i had, and it surprised me was that my tics got worse for awhile after i went off of it. i had tried paxil for my tics before and had seen no improvement. maybe it was because i had been on paxil for 2 years, though.

if you look up paxil on wikipedia, it is for ocd and generalized anxiety disorder also.

it definitely helped me over a hard place and i was going through menopause also, and i believed it helped me with that.

the sexual side effects suck, but you can get around them :).

glad it makes you feel better. i think that is the bottom line for most of us.

take care of yourself,
jeannie

Thanks everyone, I have been researching it from links mrsd posted and from google and I think I am one of those that isn't having trouble with it, mom took it and so did Jackie for a couple of years with no trouble, but anyway if anyone has experiences they don't mind sharing I'd appreciate the feedback from people here I know and care about. :)
