Kynzer has been having some bladder problems so his pedi. ordered a metabolic panel and he results look ok except for the ALP is high at 228 normal is 50-136 and the ALT/SGPT is low at 27 while normal is 30-65. I'm waiting for the doctor to call me back...and we have an appointment for Monday morning...but you know how it is...I want to know now what it means. I saw something that said something a bout overian cancer when i looked it up...well that doesn't fit because he is a 5 yr. old male! SO does anybody know what this could mean?
THanks!

The things I know about metabolic workups wouldn't fill up a page.:o I did wonder, though... did you get a copy of the results? Obviously, those two items are out of range, but are any of the others slightly out of range? Or any that are on the high (or low) side, but still within range? Might give you something else to look up.... few more pieces to the puzzle. (((Hugs))) I'm pretty sure he doesn't have ovarian cancer.:p

a few things are on the low side of normal...but most are right there in the middle.
THe doctor called and said that everything looked pretty good...and that we could talk Monday. SO while I know it's not an emergency....it still worries me that he didn't say everything is great you know?
THanks though :-)

Those tests are for liver function. Sorry I don't know more about your story but is your son on seizure meds? Because those typically are processed in the liver and liver function is typically monitored for that reason.

High ALP levels can mean your bile ducts are blocked & can indicate liver disease or bone damage but in that case there are typically other tests that would've been run in the metabolic panel that would also be abnormal. I've heard that children typically have higher ALP levels because their bones are still growing. I have no idea why, I just remember reading that when reading up on metabolic panels for my own research.
