ok dr. put me on Opana 5 mg yesterday . and boy did that set me in a loop. I slept all night got up for 10mn then back to bed and now I have a terrible headace. I was wondering if the dose can be cut in half. Does asnyone take this med ? THANKS

Do Not Cut Pill. You Can"t Do That With This Drug.

As debhun said, it could be from the switch over. It takes a minimum of 72hrs for your body to process out your last dose of methadone, so don't be suprised if you continue to experience sedation during the switch over. As your body adjusts, the initial sedation should subside. If it continues for more than a week, then I'd give your doc a call. Good luck with the switch over Roz.

Are you taking the ER Extended release or IR Instant release?

If you are taking the IR then it is perfectly acceptable to cut the dose in half but if it's the ER version it is unwise to cut them.

Either way I would speak to your physician.

I'm sorry that you're having the heavy sedation with the switch over. As with most meds I would imagine that it would take a week or so for your body to adjust and then you should be fine.
Good luck with the new med. I've heard some good things about it and I hope it works well for you.

I just got switched from 3 40mg disks of metadone a day to 2 40mg tablets of opana ER a day and the first day i did not have any energy at all. i thought it was withdawls from the methadone but the more i read some of these posts on here i think its my body just adjusting and it sucks. i am on my 3rd day on opana an its getting a little better but i wish they would have never took me off the methadone it was working wounders i had no pain and the side effects did not bother me a bit. And i did try to crush one of the 40mg tablets and take it with a glass of water to see if it would help, all it did was get in my system faster and wear off sooner so i dont suggest cuting the dose hopefully we (me and you) will adjust soon and everything will be ok.
