Autistic children experience onset early in life, before their brains are fully developed. I believe that this gives rise to the very different brain-related symptoms seen in autistic children from those seen in adults with CFS. However, there are many similarities in the symptomatology and the biochemistry of these two disorders as well, including oxidative stress, buildup of toxins, immune response shift to Th2, and gut problems, for example. The triggering factors for autism and chronic fatigue syndrome are also largely different.

Here are some of the other features that have been reported in the past to be found in autism, which are also found in CFS:
Oxidative stress
Toxicity and sensitivity to toxins, especially mercury
Gastrointestinal problems, including dysbiosis, leaky gut, and problems with casein and gluten.
Coagulation problems
Sleep disorders
HPA axis dysfunction
Abnormalities in sulfur metabolism
Due the recent attention given to Autism because of the success Jenny Mc Carthy and others have had with their autistic children, I wanted to bring this to your attention.

Here is an article about how gluten affects the brains of some autistic kids.

Immune response to dietary proteins, gliadin and cerebellar peptides in children with autism. Nutr Neurosci. 2004 Jun;7(3):151-61.
And here a study done by Dr. Hadjivassilou where he has proven that gluten can cause damage to the brain (gluten ataxia) without causing damage to the intestines. There are articles about other gluten / nuerological symptoms too though.

I've just started looking at this and was wondering if anyone else was interested in this too ? I've been GFCF (+ corn, soy, dairy and chemicals) for over 2 years now and have eliminated my ataxia, myoclonus and insomnia. I'm still working on the fatigue and brain fog, but this has improved too.
