How long have you been on methadone? I hope that he put you on a decreasing dose to wean you off the Methadone as it can pack a big w/d adjustment. Sorry to hear a good pain med that is cheap doesn't work for you.

Mark is so right I wouldn't advice to just stop taking it.
When I went off not long again I went on ms contin and I seem to be doing pretty good on it without the severe side effects I got from the methadone.
I also didn't have to taper off since I took my last dose of methadone one night then the next morning started the ms contin.
My only problems wit this med is it doesn't last the 12 hrs they said, I'm having a hard time getting a reply from my PM'S office about something for a BT med.
I really at this point wouldn't need much and not everyday.
Good luck,
Linda

My mom and I were on Methadone for around 6 months. We both gained alot of weight and made us not want to do anythung, so I went back on my oxy and lost 15 lbs very quickly. I can't take the meth. My dr tried to tell it was no different than any other opiate and that it wasn't that making us gain. Pretty funny how I felt so much better when I switched back. I also, have spoke with other's that ahd taken the meth and said they gained weight. I really don't agree with my dr, all meds are not the same. They effect everyone differently. Also, when I switched back I didn't have hardly any w/d symptoms. Oxycodone has been a great bt drug for us. Good luck.

I don't personally know about methadone, but I have a friend who recently stopped it and the withdrawls were bad for her. Her whole body hurt, she couldn't sleep, and was constantly feeling sick. She finally saw her doctor and got put on MS Contin and now she is much better.
Get back with us and let us know how you're doing.
Take Care,

Methadone is different than other pain meds. The withdrawal can be prolonged for 2-3 weeks. When tapering off Methadone (if physically dependent), you should switch to a different pain medicine for 2 weeks then taper. It makes for a much smoother ride.
Looking for a methadone like opioid without the side effect profile: levorphanol. Good luck finding a doc using it and a pharmacy carrying it. unless you are in Europe. Never caught on here.

Sorry if you have already said but I just can't keep track.
Have you tried the mscontin, this is what I went on after the methadone and have to say it is much better then the methadone.
The trouble I'm having this month come to find out is this is a different brand then last months and it isn't worth much.
However good luck finding something that works for you.

Found out the Opana he prescribed was Opana not the ER formula . It was dr. mistake and he said he would write another script for the Opana ER. Keep your fingers crossed.

My pain was completely under control while I was on Methadone, however, the side effects were just too difficult for me. My doc switched me over to MS Contin and it was a very good move. I had never taken Morphine before (except while in the hospital postop via the pump) so I had no idea what to expect. It's working great.
I was under the impression Methadone was fairly easy to get used to, however, that was simply not the case for me!
Hope Opana works for you!
