You may be just as stumped as I am or you may have an answer/something similar...
My TN is on the left hand side V2 branch, and for all of today (so far) it tastes like there is soap in my mouth (only on the TN side though)
Does anyone get anything similar?
It WONT go away!
I've been eating chewing gum all day, brushed my teeth numerous times also but yet it persists!!!
It's bringing back bad childhood memories of when my aunt would wash our mouths out if we said naughty words :D

Someone else is who knows more about this is probably far more qualified to answer than I am, however I'm sure I read something about strange tastes being due to the overstimulation of the salivatory glands, and or relative areas of the tongue, over or underfiring attack time.
I amn't 100% sure I managed to translate the esscence of the article too well so maybe best to see what the next poster has to say, it could also just be sympathy pains for a child who can't help but swear their socks off though!
Either way, I hope it goes away for you real soon, lots of love and soap free wishes from my corner.
Grace

I can only report my own experience, which is that my perception of tastes changed dramatically - either from the tn, or from the medications. Many things now taste sour to me - and sour things would trigger jolts of pain. But too sweet is as bad as too sour. Other foods, while not causing pain, have a different taste, not always pleasant. I can't say that I ever identified anything as soapy, but then I never ate any soap so maybe I wouldn't know. I stopped eating iodized salt but since I do eat tons of fish and even eat seaweed I am sure I get plenty of iodine.
I miss pickles. I miss grapefruit. I am careful about pineapple and grapes, which sometimes seem absolutely puckery. I miss the different good vinegars that I used in the past - now I can only use rice wine vinegar in moderation, because it is lower in acidity. Orange juice is iffy. On the whole, it's a big nuisance but not critical.
Do all foods taste soapy to you, or just some? Or is soapy the new normal no matter what you eat or drink? Bummer. Nancy

I get a metal taste as an aura symptom when I am getting a really nasty migraine. This isn't the same as a soapy taste but the mechanism might be the same. Sensory auras are caused by either an over excitement or deadening effect in the sensory areas of the brain. Given that TN is a sensory disfunction, I wouldn't be surprised that there might be a similar sort of thing with facial nerves, maybe a crossover from over stimulated nerves.
I never underestimate what the brain can do when there are sensory issues involved. It is an amazing and complex organ. I just wish mine worked better. :)

medications do it for me, some of them make my breath taste terrible, especially at night, I wake up in the morning with a horrible taste in my mouth. I'm asuming its the meds, but never talked to anyone about it. I can't sleep at night and have tried many different ones and some are them really leave a bad taste. Pills have so many side effects sometimes I wonder if there worth it.
