OMG you're right... MILI was, how do you say, 'brief?'
Personally, the thing I got out of that clip, kind of 'dictatorship' slant, she either lives in stepford or she is a school principal or something.

LOL, tgrimes, arent most mothers "dictators"? that was my "mode" when they were young but i changed specially for my autistic boy and for my smart daugther, we establish a "civil dialogue" :)

What I mean is for example the "Because I said so... because I said soooo..."
that's a real hard concept to grasp for some kids (and adults)

"because i said so" is dictatorship at its worse, i believe she was being funny and sarcastic at some parents

in reality a logic explanation without attitude is teaching

Well it works real well for my youngest, if you say something like that he just says "oooOOOhhh..." and nods his head, and complies with anything you would tell him, never questioning authority (ever contemplate if that was a problem in itself?).... but my two older boys, OMG if you say 'because I said so', that is like declaring war or something. :)

I can't say anything remotely close to that to Coley either. He doesn't get mad, just wants to understand so keeps asking, "why.....?"

I tried answering until I couldn't and then finally just declaring it LAW...but then he says, "But why did you say that Mommy?" And I just have to explain, because I am the boss. And then he wants to know why he can't be boss sometimes, then I have to explain that when he's all grown up he can be boss, then he wants to know why Daddy isn't boss because he is a all grown up ;) , then I have to explain that Daddy IS the boss too, but when Mommy isn't around :D , and it just goes on & on & on like this...

It's MUCH easier to just say something like: ...because you need to get enough sleep so that you can go to school tomorrow and be rested, ...because you don't want to be grumpy, ....so you will have fun with your friends when you play, ...because they won't want to play with you if you are a grouch, ...because you will be grouchy if you don't get enough sleep, ...yes maybe Oscar does need a nap.

But we could go on forever like this! God help me sometimes, I swear, I have wished for a direct line to Sir Isaac Newton to explain the laws of gravity to him, and God 'herself' (Coley has decided God is a female :D ) to explain the laws of nature...and he's serious too...he wants to understand things like, exactly WHY he needs to eat to be big and strong. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_1_14.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxmk572YYUS) So now he knows which items on his plate will help him to grow strong bones, which will help with big muscles and which will give him the energy to ride his bike VERY fast...

I'm telling you, by the end of the day my head hurts from explaining things to him! I've started telling him he's procrastinating...hoping that will stop the incesent 20-questions!

:D Lol, a friend saw her in person a few weeks ago at a christian women's conference.

My kids know that when I say "because I said so" that I'm joking/being sarcastic, I've never been able to say that with a straight face. It ranks right up there with "if you don't knock that off right now, i'm going to yank off your arm and beat you will the bloody stump". ;)
