That's right. I've got that feeling again. I'm in love ... with my new truck! :D

Alright, so it's cliché, but understand that, for guys of a certain age, a new truck is better than that long ago forgotten and unlamented thrill of carnal desire. Heck, I'm willing to stake my reputation it's better than chocolate ... and lasts a whole lot longer too!

Of course, with every new love, an old love gets jilted. My old truck just doesn't have that youthful luster and zip she once radiated from every pore. She's got rust showing, her paint's badly faded, sags a little on her left side, muffler split so her complaining's become incessant, fluids dripping from her gaskets, guzzles gas like its cheap gin, loosing suction from her intake, and chokes getting up hills she once climbed easily. Her last physical indicated her emissions are also out of whack, so she's become a bit noxious to be around. Lately, she's developed a short in her wiring that's causing her transmission to slip in and out (mostly out) of overdrive that's really annoying. Worse, I believe it may prove fatal. At 244K miles, she's had a good, long run, so I shouldn't feel as bad as I do about dumping her. We've traveled 173K of those miles together, so I am sad to see her ailing and past riding. Nonetheless, I decided the right thing to do is put her out to pasture (being careful she gets no glimpse of her unsuspected rival).

My new truck isn't really 'new', of course. I prefer cars and trucks with some experience (of the road) and well broken in. The older and wiser truck for me, says he. Let someone else weed out the weepers from the keepers. This one's eight years old, travelled 75,000 miles since leaving Detroit, and just entering her prime. She's got a burgundy metal-flake exterior and creamy tan interior, a hitch in her tail, a rack to be proud of, easy to get into, a driver's seat so comfortable I could ride her all night, 4-wheel drive to handle those tight spots, rides high, handles well on curves, rugged for those bumps, lots of horsepower, roomy in her withers, and so smooth it feels like heaven.

And, you all thought I have no love life!

Congrats Bob!! Hey what do you mean "guys of a certain age"??? ;) I know what it's like to love a truck. I love mine too!!!! I take very good care of her, probably better care of her than my husband (shhhhhhh don't tell anyone). It's not exactly a truck, it's an SUV. I know I'm adding to the world's problems with the gas shortage, but I can't help myself. The colour is great too, I never lose her in a parking lot, I just scout around and she pops right out! She has a wonderful stereo system, always singing to me, and turns heads where ever we go (OK that might be my imagination). Here's a picture, let's see one of yours too

Whoa, Bob! Watch your language. Us girls (of a waaaaay certain age, to be sure) love our trucks, too. I tried, I really tried. I prowled the lots and I crawled in and out of some of those sedans - heck, I even took a couple out on the road (cringeing the whole while). And then, a salesman saw the inner me (we love it when guys do that) and led me out to my current heartthrob. I climbed in. Bliss. Red, too. I could hardly get out long enough to dash back to the office and sign the papers. Yes, some of us are just psychologically truck drivers. Sittin' up high, watching the world fly by . . . whoops, strike that fly, I mean pass gently of course. Congratulations on the new pitapat, may you two have a long and happy future. (And if you happen to drive through the reservation up here, hold it down, those guys are serious .)

A moment of past history, but when I drove a chrome yellow heavy Ford pickup with a hard hat hanging in the back window, I got waved through all kinds of places. How they overlooked the shoulder-lenth earrings I don't know, but I sure loved the wave-by. Nancy

Ok Bob I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm thinking your doing what most of the (older) men do when they reach a certain age, and turn in the old model for a new and prettier one. And if you know anything about trucks they really gett pissed off when that happens. Well the old one properly had 10,000 thousand more miles on her and now she's sitting in a junk yard waiting for someone to pull off a wheel or worst yet sold for scrap metal , wondering where in the world is Bob.:( So Bob as you speed down whatever highway, maybe rt 66 for all I know, think about good old whats her name and where she is now.
Enjoy the ride!!
Catherine:)

Oops, did I say 160 horseypower? That was the spec for my old truck. This one's got 210 hp (that's right two-one-zero) horseys packed away inside! That's 30% more giddy-up!

Well, I do have to say that my truck has proven to be much more reliable than a flesh and blood love interest. He never lets me down, is always ready to do a job, never complains that I am not spending enough time with him, gives me a smooth ride every time, and makes me feel safe where ever I go.

I LOVE my truck! :)

Hey! - I've been in love with my car for years now, and I'm a woman! My car has a name and I talk to him (yes, it's a guy). Guys always stare at me in the supermarket when I look at car magazines in the magazine section - hehee. So anyhow, I'm glad you love your truck!

OK it seems like I'm the only one who doesn't care what type of car she drives, as long as it runs and gets me where I need to go I'm happy, but to all of you guys who love their cars I'm happy for you, don't even ask me what type I drive, I don't know a chevy from a ford. Now take me to a Macys, or Saks, (whichfull dreaming) and I can show you where every department is;)
Love to all of you going to Florida in a few weeks

:D I was wondering about the hp....now, 210 sounds much better!!

Whatever the hp....I need not worry about it, traffic in LA moves at about 5-7 mph, IF it moves at all

Catherine, I'm the same way! I've been driving a twenty year old station wagon for the last four or five years. I call it my granny wagon. It runs great, even if it is old and looks kinda funny. It's got well over two hundred thousand miles on it, and still usually gets 26 miles to the gallon, so I feel like driving it is a blessing to me!
