For the past fifteen years I thought middle age coming on was the source for my lack of ability to function for intimate relations. No. After all that time I stopped taking anti depressants and function returned within two weeks. The withdrawal was horrible and I may have to return to a medication due to my mental state, but at least now I know the source of the problem. That side affect is a source of depression in itself.

It is good that you posted about this. I have to ask, did your doctor not mention the possibility of this at all?

There's a medication that will help with medications causing lack of "want".
I know...is awful...you take medication to help handle life, but it takes away your womanhood!:o

To answer Joy. Nope..my doc never mentioned just how anti depressants can be so...very so debilitating when is comes to sexuality. Both mentally and physically both for females and males. They have a numbing affect that can make activity impossible. This should be explicitly explained by a doctor before pills are prescribed.

It is a shame that we take something for our depression and other mental illnesses and it affects our ability to function or even the want when it comes to sex and then that contributes to our depression. Just finding the urge is hard and then finding that and not being able to "complete" the act is discouraging so next time you almost feel like what is the point. Unfortunately this can ruin a relationship unless you have someone who is patient and understanding. Cheryl you mentioned a med that will help can you tell me what that is. I would definitely be interested.

It truly is a shame that we start to rattle when we walk from taking one pill for this and another pill to conter-act some of the bad side affect from it. And so on and so on. I have the same proble with my libido. It is up and down. Goood phases and low phases. I am gonna get andother pill so I rattle more, cause I ,well, love my hubby and I ove being close to him and heck we are young yet, only in our early 50's--isn't that the new 30's?????
