A child or adult diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder will have challenges in the same 3 developmental areas.
Autism is usually diagnosed in a child before they are 3 years old so when your child is born you don’t know they are autistic because it does not have any physical symptoms. It is called the ‘autistic spectrum’ because you can be affected by these difficulties to various degrees from mild to severe.
The areas of difficulty are :
1. Communication
2. Social interaction and
3. Imagination
Which are sometimes called the ‘triad of impairments’.
My son who has just turned 4 in July has a form of Autism but he has not yet been diagnosed properly because there are so many types of it out there. My son has communication difficulties as he can not yet talk which does affect his social interaction with other children but this has not stopped him starting mainstream school this September and all the children are really nice to him which is great and with his one to one support I know he will develop at his own pace but alongside other children his age that except him for who he is.
The Autistic spectrum is very broad. You may meet a person with Downs syndrome with autistic tendencies or a grown man or woman with a family who only received a diagnosis in their adult life. You can be mildly or severely affected by all of the areas described in the triad, or have more difficulty in one area, and less in others. Therefore every person on the autistic spectrum is unique with their own very specific challenges abilities and gifts.

That's it, frighten people into support...If I were to join this type of crusade people would be writing checks & signing petitions to get the clothes back on!
Who's game! LOL!

Well that's very cool.
Dont' agree with number 3. Imagination, I for one relied on it to get me through a life in which reality was too hard. I see Vince creating imaginary scenarios all the time.
I had to laugh, I could imagine Pogue doing that and being in smell he!! with all those naked twats. I can imagine her being the bottom of the v in the letter M, telling herself over and over, "it's for a good cause, it's for a good cause..." Snooort :D .

I agree too, Mili. I see quite a bit of imagination in autistic children. It is just a different kind of imagination, not the kind based on playing "house" with other kids, play pretending, etc.
Afterall, they tend to be the ones who often grow up to develop cutting edge technologies and we all know that much of that is based on their unique imagination combined with statistical facts and figures.
Then look at all the autistic teens who are really into role playing games. There is alot of imagination involved in that.

Ya, you guys are right! I was thinking the same thing when I read it...Coley's got great imagination...but it is hard for the other kids to 'get it'...not easy for him to share his pretend.

Yeah, both my kids have excellent imagination..
"EXPERTS" have told me they are only ecolachia, or however you spell that,, that they is a mimic of what they see in TV, but my kids get into it,, and besides, isn't that what normal kids do when they play many times,, mimic what they see on tv?? geesh,, my kids have wonderfull imagination,, they get that from me  BRAG!! LOL
