EAST TROY – About 130 people are searching for a 40-year-old diabetic man who also suffers from autism.

Kyle Stevens was last seen Thursday at 10:20 p.m. at his residence in Miramar Subdivision in East Troy.

Stevens does not speak and searchers feel they have a matter of hours before he will possibly go into diabetic shock. Because Stevens doesn’t speak, he is not able to ask for help. Police say Stevens has the mental ability of a five year old.

Police say Stevens has walked off before and has always been found in unlocked cars. Police are asking people who live in the East Troy area to check their vehicles.

Police also got some help Friday afternoon.

“Just by chance street department employees learned there was a training seminar going on at the Salvation Army a few miles down the road with dog handler teams and they responded immediately,” one searcher said.

Stevens was last seen wearing khaki shorts, a yellow shirt, white socks and tennis shoes.

Police say the Civil Air Patrol will begin searching and they are planning to bring out infrared cameras and other night time search equipment. They say this search will continue until Kyle Stevens is found.

If you have any information or sightings please contact the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department at (262) 741-4400.

So sad, my thoughts are with his mother...thanks for sharing this MrsJerome. :( It just makes me sad to think that it happens so frequently, just a few weeks ago we had an autsitic child in our state get lost and was found safe and sound, which was a relief I am sure for his family. Too bad this story had a sad ending. :(

"When he goes for walks, he thinks I know where he is. Autism is a strange illness."

Oh my God, my heart goes out to her. How come folks can get 24/7 nursing care from the state for physical illness - which is fine, but not men like him who can wander away and die? Oh that is so sad. I pray his mother can survive this grief of losing her child.

Thank you for posting the story Mrs.J.

Mili, I just can't shake this...I wish I could hug her SO bad! Something just is WAY wrong, WAY WAY WAY wrong! And I can't believe he's dead, and the sad reality that even with his death likely nothing will change! What a horrible horrible waste! How helpless she must feel...

EAST TROY – A 40-year-old diabetic man who also suffers from autism was found dead in a barn in his backyard today. He fell through the foundation of the barn. Its unkown if he went into a diabetic shock or if it was something else.

Kyle Stevens went missing Thursday night at his residence in Miramar Subdivision in East Troy. Police say Stevens has walked off before and has always been found in unlocked cars. That was not the case today.

Stevens' mother thanked everybody who participated in the search for her son. The exact cause of his death is still unknown at this time.

I heard on the news last night that he was apparently found in the debris.
How sad this was for him and his mother to be oh so close yet oh so far.
I am wondering if in this age of high technology if it would be possible to have some type of GPS system attached to either the clothing or possibly to the shoes to prevent this type of tragedy from happening to others.

It is possible...and being done. ( raises a whol'nuther can of worms...for me anyway.)

But...there is a GPS tracking device in use...some in nursing homes, some privately, some towns even have a program. There is a device that can be worn like a bracelet (locks on) or a fanny pack with a GPS locator in it and then when a person goes missing they can be tracked and located fairly quickly. There is also one that works like that and can also be set with boundaries of sorts...so an alarm will sound if the person wanders a set distance from the base. So you can set 100 yards from your home or some such. There is the possibility of using RFID tracking, with injected capsule under the skin. :(

I'd rather be vigilant but my vigilance has been overcome several times. I've searched neighborhood, (unlocked cars I can relate to) woods, public places. I know my child is in danger and I accept that fact on a level I think typical parents don't. I also trust God more to take care of my child when I cannot, I think, because of the realization and experience of the increased risk.

I don't know who this worldnetnews is...but here's an article.

a student? paper about this idea

I've read tons about this a few years ago...but my memory is so fallible...and getting more so. sigh.
Actually, when my son first started eloping I searched for an id device and found out about the Verichip while it was in development and was contacted by them to gauge interest in the use of the device.

I just glanced at a lot of these sites, so don't know the full opinion they are telling. gotta run.

there are other interesting techno things going on too. store med records on a keychain flash drive for quick access, store current child info/photo for immediate access when child goes missing etc. track your gadgets :) service to find your missing, lost or stolen, flashdrives. :D I guess I'd need that one. I watch where I put my boy, I lose everything else! lol

Body of 7-year-old autistic boy found
The body of a missing 7-year-old autistic boy was discovered late this morning in a pond adjacent to Ten Mile Creek, less than a quarter of a mile from his home where he disappeared five days ago, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

A dog team and another rescue member found the body of Benjy Heil about 11 a.m. in the water following an intense search by about 300 volunteers today. He was located near the shore in an area measuring about 25 feet deep, according to authorities.

More than 600 volunteers searched for the boy over the weekend after he disappeared from his family's Town of Saratoga home Thursday evening. He had been playing in the basement of his home when his family realized he was gone and called authorities.
"Everybody's distraught. Everybody's sad. We obviously would have wished for a much better resolution," said Wood County Sheriff's Lt. David Laude. "Unfortunately we weren't able to come through for the family. The effort was incredible, however."

Laude said the location where Benjy was found had been searched several times in recent days.

"At this point we do not know exactly how long the boy had been right there," he said. "We're not sure whether or not he had been underwater for any duration."

The Wood County coroner's office will investigate those questions, he said.

This tragic incident happened just this past June. It occured in the Wisconsin Rapids region. This was in about the middle of the state.
I read on another thread about ID Bracelets. However in the case of these two tragic events that would have done nothing to change the tragic outcomes that occured. I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the teenager that was zapped by the over-zealous police officers either.

It's horrible, probably the only thing that would help in these tragic events would be one of those lojack devices.

But outside of a rural area an id bracelet could help...like if lost at a mall or something.

As far as the stupidity of the police...honestly that behavior on their part is terrible no matter who they hit...well I guess we'd all be cheering him on if he had aprehended a pedophile or something...but outside of that, it was plainly an abuse of power. The sad reality of the woman's disability is just gut wrenching! I honestly don't think anything short of retraining would help that jerks policing skills!

Wandering boy returned home

Thursday, September 6, 2007

TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- Tampa police officers have reunited a lost boy with his guardians.

Police officers spent Thursday morning searching for the caretakers of the boy after Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies found him around 2:30 a.m. wandering in the streets near 22nd Street and Fowler Avenue in the USF area of Tampa.

Authorities said the boy, believed to be about 10 to 12 years old, deaf and autistic, was barefoot and wearing only boxer shorts and was carrying a bag of Chex Mix.

Tampa police officers went door-to-door in the neighboring area trying to find where the boy lived. Officials said the child was safe and there was no neglect involved.

The boy's guardians called police to report the boy was missing and he was returned to a home located on Colby Lane at about 6 a.m.

The home is located about a half-mile from where he was found
