Hello all

I am 49, with Parkinsons, and have been a smoker - not heavy- but non the less a smoker on and off since i was 17. Just recently returned from a holiday in Greece, decided i had smoked far too many cigarettes, and when hubby (non smoker) said he was going on a diet, I said yes, and i'm going to give up smoking. Well! To be totally honest i have given up so many times before and started again, i wasn't expecting miracles - it could be 1 week, 1 day or even 1 hour before i turned to the ciggies - i know i've tried before, and with extra help of patches, inhalers and gum on different occasions i still went back to the fags!

This time, i still had packets of duty free in the house, still had lighters, but decided to go "cold turkey" - no patches, gum or inhalers...was i mad lol.

This Sunday will be my one month milestone without smoking one single cigarette or one puff or even a sniff. I cannot believe that i have hardly thought about smoking - I have had very few cravings, which have lasted seconds, and i have started running - i am not sleeping too well but hey that will sort itself out. I am just simply amazed that i have come this far with so little hardship - am i kidding myself - is it suddenly going to go pear shaped or have i cracked it! I am absolutely estatic and very proud that i have come this far - i cant imagine what is so different from every other time, but i am sooooooooo glad it is!

Isn't it a wonderful feeling??? Sometimes, it's just our time to quit and we do so with very little difficulty. :) I'm so glad to hear this has been happening for you!!

Continue enjoying it daily. Continue being proud of your accomplishment. Continue being an ex-smoker!! :D
By the way, how is your husband doing with his diet?? Maybe it's been easier for you this time because you were both making changes - in essence, you had a quitting buddy! ;)

As jingle suggested, post whenever you like. I know the forum looks pretty empty :( , but there are a few of us who check in often to see if there are any newcomers.

Again --

CONGRATULATIONS, MILLY!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Thank you so much for your overwhelming support, I am still smoke free, and loving it! On Saturday i will be joining two of my friends from work for a six mile walk. We have decided to do the moonwalk in London next May to raise money for cancer research, that is a 25 mile walk starting at midnight, so we need plenty of practise!

Thanks again, and i will keep in touch with my progress.
