Good luck and God bless you - I've had my mom for three years with a myriad of health problems-finally had to hire someone to come in and help when I got so sick. My heart goes out to you.

Email me if you want to talk - uvamomb2007@hotmail.com

Take care ofyourself, too!

Prayers and good luck to you

don't be afraid to explore options re: getting in home help and taking as many breaks/doing things just for yourself as possible. Also consider day care for him, there are some wonderful programs and it might be better than having him just camped out in your house 24/7

take care

love,

Thanks Kathy and Linda,

It turns out I didn't really need anything long term as he passed exactly a week after he got here....He slipped into an almost vegetative state on Tuesday morning and pretty much stayed that way for 5 days until he finally passed.....

The guess is that he waited until he got to a place he felt he could relax and gave in to his body....It happened so fast.....

So I won't be his caretaker afterall....Hospice was a great help and I decided to look into nursing and study palliative care....There are simply not enough people either able or willing to do this work, and after watching this process I understand now how important it is.....I finally feel passionate about something outside of my family....

At any rate it was a double edged sword, I am just happy he is done suffering this life.....He simply suffered for far too long.....

Fay I'm soooo sorry for your loss, but at least the suffering is over. Please PM me if you want to talk. I lost my mother and I would be happy to share some of my experiences with you through your grieving process.

Fay, sorry to hear of your loss, I know it must have been a shock to happen so soon after he arrived. I am sure you were a comfort to him in his last days. I respect your decision to provide care for others; it is an important time of life.... My sister-in-law, a nurse already, turned to palliative care after her eight-year-old son died of cancer. She is a blessing to so many people now, and is studying at night to be a P.A. just so she can also prescribe medicine.
