Hi everyone. You probably don't remember me because I haven't been on this forum since it has changed, but I was "Celiacmom" on the other one. My youngest son has HFA and Celiac disease and he's now 7. My oldest is 14 and has been diagnosed with ADHD.

Life has really caught up with me and I haven't posted in quite some time. I was a SAHM before, but now I am working part time as a Newborn Hearing Screener at a large local hospital. It's been great knowing that I can take part in the early identification and intervention of hearing loss. Too bad there isn't yet a test to quickly identify newborns who are at a high risk of autism. Hopefully someday it will be developed and be as quick and efficient as the hearing screens I perform.

Anyway, I am going to try and frequent here more often. Things are getting a little hairy with my son and his social skills lately. He's now in 2nd grade and new problems have presented themselves such as wearing out his welcome at the neighbor's home and dealing with classmates setting him up to get him into trouble due to his naiivity. This is something we have never dealt with before, and unfortunately his teacher is not very understanding.

I would love to hear your stories about bullying kids and suggestions on how to handle these situations. I have to go, but I'll post later in greater detail about the incidents at school.

Glad to be back on the forum!;) Take care.

high functioning autism or aspergers depends in which side you are or with whom or whomever invented these terms :( :(

CeliacMom holy cow sure I remember you!!!!

So nice to see you!!!!

Don't get scared at me and tgrimes getting silly on a few threads here with gross stuff...feel free to pick a side (mine) and join in the fun, or grossness, or what ever ya'd call it.

There's no quick answer for the bullying or wearing out welcomes, not any I've found. However, what I have found and have been posting about pretty much nonstop is RDI - please do some searches here and look no www.rdiconnect.com for more info. It's the first time in all these years I understand exactly what autism is and better, exactly what I need to do for Vincent.

If it helps at all, no way could my son go to anyone's house in second grade without me there at all times watching like an armed guard. Even now in sixth, I'm not sure who could invite him cause I'm not sure what parent could handle it...he can do lots of outdoor stuff, he was even in camp all summer having a blast, but unless it's an activity he loves, he really needs adult supervision every moment. Anytime he's with other kids he for sure needs adult supervision every moment, although he's great fine with asd kids and very little kids.

Gosh it's nice to see you again!

Hi Rhyanen -
sorry to sidetrack there... good you are back.
I guess with the hearing screening you might get a few autistic kids... I think sometimes they present with what looks like deafnees but isn't. I don't know, but that's something they wanted to rule out first with one of my kids.
Sorry to hear about the school problems but I hope you get some relief here.
Welcome back!
