How many of you have a microchip in your doggie? I just read an AP news flash about how the FDA approved microchips without bothering to release any information about dogs getting sarcoma tumors @ the implant site!

Now this is interesting cause I was recently reading how they are putting chips in people,to record our medical files, and for security purposes.Keep track of Alziemer patients, etc.

I figured when I read the first article that no way would I ever knowingly be microchipped, for one thing this little rice size chips can migrate out of the arm to other parts of the body,so how would they even be scanned?

Plus I see this as a huge invasion of privacy. There would be no limit to how much info they could use, plus keep track of our every move. It just sounds kinda spooky to me.

Then there's the money issue. BIG bucks involved with this. And I don't appreciate the FDA approving this kind of thing & then refusing to provide all the info from the manufacturer due to "trademark secrets". Seems to me just one more thing we are kept in the dark about until it's too late?

Rags (my dog) is already microchipped, however after reading this I'll think twice before having it done again.

And in case you aren't aware of this: not all chips will respond to all vet's equipment,I found this out when my son's Dobie was scanned & it didn't work! I do however believe they are working toward's a "universal" system.

Just something to consider.

Buttons that is nice to know. I often wondered if every vet would have one of those scanners anyhow. And one in me, AFTER the fight!

Buttons...thanks for the info...more stuff to worry about! Oyee!
Well every dog we've gotten has been chipped...we didnt have our cats chipped because...welll, they're cats and dont run off or get stolen like dogs.

I think I'd take the risk of microchipping just because of theft, loss, if my dogs were expensive or rare.
But perhaps I need to read this infor further.
We live way out in the country...I think if we lived in the city or a subdivision, would be worth having the chip incase they're lost of run away.
When we get another Scotty Doggie, pup perhaps, we will be having it chipped just as all of our dogs have.
Blessings, cheryl

Animals can get sarcoma from their vaccination site. I'd rather take the chance instead of watching them die from a preventable disease. Or losing them. They're all rescues that weren't chipped.
