Cry Tears

Please people...this is VERY sensitive for me to write this....and so painful to post this as I'm really opening up myself here,
I suffered so long, needlessly because I just didn't know and neither did all the doctors I'd seen.
I wish someone had shared this info with me long ago, would have saved me a lot of heartaches and perhaps a broken marriage.

Every time we had sex...it hurt so bad, I'd be in tears...the next day I'd have a whopping bladder infection, end up on antibiotics.
Sex was not only painful, when should be enjoyable...but it felt as if I was a virgin being raped.(I know first hand what that is like).

Sex became a very traumatic event for me and I couldn't hide this from my husband as I ended crying afterwards.
All the understanding and compassion in the world from a very patient, gentle and kind partner won't fix this either!
And you can only avoid this for only so long.
Sex should be part of a loving relationship where both are mutually satisfied, fulfilled, relaxed and happy.
Nothing what like I was experiencing.
Many women who have muslce disfunction, such as Fibromyalgia and other health issues can experience very painful sex and bladder infections after that!
It is NOT because of Hormones, change of life, dryness or lack of lubrication...all the HRT and lubes in the world doesn't help.
Its a matter of muscle disfunction.

You have muscles that can become tight and knotted in your vagina, just as the ones on your back or anywhere else can be.
For this they do trigger point release to stop muscle spasms and pain.

It takes a very specially trained Physical Therapist who does this type of vaginal trigger point release work.
It doesn't hurt...much...and takes less than 20 mins for entire "procedure" start to finish. Most insurances cover this too.
Its also stopped my always having bladder infections as well as long as I have this procedure done every so often.
So this is well worth any embarrestment, pain and cost involved.

My own gynecologist had no idea this was an option for my painful sex and bladder infections.
I was sent to a Urologist to help find the cause of my constant bladder infections...
after my examinations and into his office for consult,
I was shocked and dismayed that he "simply" suggested I needed to have Physical therapy!
PT for Bladder infections? What was this crazy young doctor saying?
That was ALL this Urologist did...no MRI's, CT's, x-rays and all that fancy testings you read about for bladder infections.
Just send me to PT! Yeah right!
WHAT?....I tried arueing that I did NOT need PT for bladder infections.
But he asked me to trust him on this...that he finds a lot of women in same boat as me...
especially those with Fibromyalgia...also had painful sex....how did he know...
I never mentioned this to him and was NOT part of my complaint.
But he told me HE KNEW sex was very painful for me.

So I sheepishly took his advice....drove the 1 hour distance downtown to see this special PT person.
She was gentle, respected my every question and walked me thru the entire "procedure".
Wow! We could acually hear/feel my knotted muscle "pop" when it realeased with gentle pressure.
It wasn't all that painful when its done...takes only 30 seconds at the most.
But after just a few sessions my sex life turned around to where it was no longer painful and became enjoyable again.
And....that was the end of my bladder infections!

The Urologist is Dr Peter Ruff...but he moved to Texas...lucky ladies there!
He's young and very smart...and a leader in this subject.

When I went back to his practice, needing insurance update referal for this PT...
I was seen by his partner, a Urologist (older guy ready to retire) who took his place said he's clueless when it comes to trigger point release...what?

So I found another Urologist who knew about this....don't ask their receptionist...ask his nurse!
If they do NOT know about this...DO NOT see this doctor...I don't care how nice or how well trained they are!

I was back to having painful sex and those god-aweful bladder infections, one that landed me in the ER...
all this pain because I needed an update on the referal!
The new Urologist did a complete bladder work up, MRI's, CT scans, ex-rays....
all came back to my needing trigger point release work done to keep the bladder infections away.
Lots of $ and I was back to square one!
But finally got the referral I needed to see the special PT.

My insurance changed AGAIN and refuses to let me be treated by the original PT specialist...
claims trigger point release isn't an option for treating my conditions...
I guess they'd rather I have bladder infections so bad I'm hospitalized, needing catherizations as the blood clots in my urine too big to pass thru...
and my temperature usually 103* and I'm miserable for days!
We were on vacation in Palm Springs Calif, 1,000 miles from home the last time I ended up in ER for bladder infection.

My new Urologist has written PT orders, but I'm waiting for the OK from insurance...3 months now...thanks Motorola!
So senseless...big time bad medicine!:(
My medical record was sent to China for review and OK to have the PT!
But...at least I have hope, there's an answer to my pain and bladder infections...and as soon as I get back into PT, I can get back to feeling like a "normal" woman!
Sex should never be painful...and if it is...the "prize" for doing it, shouldn't be a whopping bladder infection!
Thats sooo not what sex is about...but sadly...it has been.
I really pray I've helped someone here.
PM me if you have any questions or need further help on this subject.
Blessings,...crytears

Wow. I had no idea. I am so glad you were brave enough to post this. I hope a lot of women get help from this. You may have just saved some marriages. You say physical therapy but is it not a certain exercise or something that you can do at home? Is it some kind of manipulation done by the pt? I really hope you get the help you need and that many women may see this and bring it up to their doctors.

Thanks

Just as Fibromyalgia is clueless...so is this cause of painful sex.
Even the Urologist who was a partner to Dr P Ruff...he too had no idea!
Amazing!
I will be posting links to sights that address this very subject...in the mean time, just google search Painful intercourse, vaginal trigger point release.
Not every PT can do this...but a trained one can teach your partner how it can be done.
Blessings, crytears

sorry to intrude(in another old thread, even), but in the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies, he covers this subject of trigger points in places like the bulbospongious muscles and how to treat them. there's only one that i can think of that you might not be able to reach yourself. and a lot of trigger points can cause genital pain in men as well. you should be able to pick the book up at amazon or barnes and noble for about $20 w/ shipping, i think. this book is excellent, and i use it a lot for myself. i'd recommend it to anyone with myofascial pain.
