Thought I would post this question over here away from my usual haunt.

I met a person from Oregon this weekend who told me she was able to grow, possess, and use marijuana legally in the state of Oregon.

I do not want to do this but I am so curious as to the status of this fable or reality.

She claimed the police even came to inspect her plants in her garden to give her the official OK on the amount.

I've posted other places and researched this phenomenon only to get mixed results as to the legality of the practice and what states have rules with special laws concerning Marijuana.

Seems the big issue is that federal laws cover the herb for all 50 states and how can a single state make a legalizing law when there is a federal law against something?

Anyone know the truth about this subject? From much of what I've gathered there may be some state laws liberalizing marijuana use but the DEA isn't too happy about this, but if you are a small time grower/user maybe they just let it go.

I've read a lot but don't know what to believe.

Yes....Mary Jane is legal here in Oregon!
I've got a roach and pot pipe in my house too! But I don't use it, was my kids pipe I'd found in her purse!
My DIL has a MJ card...she can smoke it, grow it for her own personal useage.
When she went to court for custody battle over my granddaughter, she tested positive for heavy MJ usuage...but she claimed she needed it for her back pain. AND...she smoked it in her "bong" in front of my 5 Y O grand daughter who told the judge she watched her mommy use this long pipe that bubbled smoke that smelled funny.
The judge gave her partial custoday and admonished her mommy to NEVER smoke it in front of her again!
So....if can be so open like that in front of a child...is legal long as you have valid pain.
We were in Eugene, Oregon, college town 3 hours south of me...all sorts of advertisments for medical MJ cards...come see Dr so and so!:D
I guess they give those cards to anyone....I got a hangnail....OK...smoke 4 joints every 3 hours for that!
And you thought we kept horses in our huge barn!....and the well pump runs round the clock....all solar panels on top keep my plants happy! NOT!
Yes....Pot is very legal here in Oregon!
We've gone camping or fishing....people smoking it despite authorities right there...they just flash their medical MJ card! OMG! Whats next!
But then whats the difference between Opiod pain meds like Percocete, Davecette, Vicoden, Percodan...Oxycodone, Oxycontin...is all made from opiom!

Why on earth they won't just legalize pot everywhere....is beyond me!
And I'll go as far as saying we should legalize all drugs...that would stop nearly ALL crime!
People get it any way...why not make it easier to get instead of killing, robbing, beating others over it.
Wouldn't need to rob someone or women prostitute themselves for drug money!....just go to a clinic, get your fix....
afterall...thats what most Methadone clinics are anyway!

Beleive me...I know 1st hand....Tuesdays was Methadone clinic night!
Nothing happier than a van full of woman on their way to Methadone clinic at Los Colinas Co Jail!
The ride back was always quiet...everyone subdued, happy and very mellow!
Only the driver (me) wasn't in a blissful haze that nite!

MJ is much less powerful than Opium/Opiods! But is cheaper, and uncle sam would want a cut!
But Oxycodone has no stems or seeds that we don't need....weeeeeeh, (pursed lips inhaling sucking sound) .....Acopolco gold is bad as weed!:D
And yes...I know the word as in that last phrase is not "AS"!
But please, people....follow Bill's advice...DO NOT INHALE!
Ha!

I would love to know how many chronic pain patients are using marijuana for pain relief instead of opiod medication. I've been on opiods under a pain management specialist care since 11/00. I've wondered so many times what this long term opiod use is doing to my body. I smoked pot recreationally for 27 years with no telling side effects & often think the gov't needs to let somebody study & publish the long term effects of both.

Well anything NATURAL is always better (And this would be considered "NATURAL")

But is can be abused WAY TO EASILY which is why they frown upon it... (It might do wonders, but people cant be trusted to use it right (Well in a way they dont mind it being used))

I agree.. I smoked it for close to 7 or 8 years and didn't/don't see any issues. I now have Fibromyalgia, or so my docs say, and would love to see if it would help my pain however 1 failed random at work and I would be in the unemployment line and Tennessee is not very forgiving on MJ use.

I can't believe that it's been 9 months since I posted about marijuana use. Unfortunately, here in OK they say we have the best growing conditions but I can't seem to find any..... For about the last year I've been having random nausea & the pot really helps. Just a few tokes was all it took but since I can't always get it my doctor has now added 2 new meds!! Like I needed more medication to take.
