Hi Everyone! Has anyone had a drastic change in their vision since having a rupture, SAH, stroke or clipping? My vision is getting pretty bad and I was told by my Opthamologist that I need bifocals because I am 40! Now how do my eyes know that I am 40????? It just seems ironic that since the rupture this has all started with my eyes. Any help you guys have would be appreciated.

Love,
Lori

Hi Lori, my eyes have also..I broke down and went and got reading glasses from the store..I really need to go have them checked by a doctor..reading up close is the worst for me...I read pretty well if the writting is farther away from my eyes..and yes I did notice this after my rupture, and I'm 42..take care Cindy

Hi Lori,
I was just fitted for new contacts and have found absolutely NO change in my vision, if not a slight improvement. I should preface this statement by saying that before my rupture I was "legally blind". You know, the "Coke Bottle" glasses type person, (but I have worn contacts my whole life since age 14). I'm 47 and my eye doctor put me through every test in the book knowing that I've been through a rupture (He's a personal friend.) and he actually said that my previously atrocious vision actually improved with a rupture and a re rupture (with stroke). He said I lost a little peripheral vision on my left side (left side rupture), but barely enough to mention. And my distance vision actually improved....go figure! He did a retinal comparison to the last time I was there (about 18 months ago) and he could show me the damage that was done. He explained it like if there had been a forest fire in the woods and 40 years later the trees were cut down, you could see the ring around the tree when the forest fire went through. He showed me the difference between my left and right retina and my left eye looked as if a forest fire had ripped through, twice!

How do your eyes know that your 40? Well that's simple! The warranty runs out when you turn 40. Didn't anyone ever tell you that?;)

 I had 20/20 vision until the day of my rupture and I was 45! ;) My Anuerysm is next to my left optical artery and comm. arteries, ruptured 2 years ago. One of my main symptoms from the rupture was blurred vision, left eye pain, light sensitivity bad, perifial vision, severe headache, dizziness, nausia... After my surgeries, prob. about 6 months after I went to an eye specialist. He did test and saw no damage, and made me bifocals. They made it worst!!! My Dr. wants me to go to a different specialist and get checked again, since it has been almost 2 years since my surgery. I don't exspect it to be any different as then, my vision is different everyday! Depending on my headaches... I don't think glasses are going to help, I use the lightest Walgreens cheap reading glasses or as we call them "cheaters". :D I can only keep them on for a few min.?? I will go the specialist again though?? I think it is just my brain damage!! :p
Hope & pray it gets better in time for all of us! ;) Take care, Tricia

I had my eyes tested two months ago and only needed new glasses because I was tired of my old ones, they were six years old, my eyes haven't changed, but my vision did get worse six years ago when I had my first anneurysm coiled.

Lol, Julie no wonder they told me I needed bifocals then. I hate bifocals with a passion and won't ever get them again. I'll use reading glasses and regular glasses.

You guys, your posts cheered me up so much! Thank you. I love the one about my eyes know I'm 40 because my warranty ran out! Glenn, I'm like you. I refuse to get bifocals yet! I'll walk in to walls first. My friend and I were in Sephora and I was looking for a certain lipstick color. I couldn't read the name on the bottom of the tube to save my life. I grabbed this young kid and asked him if he could pick out "Glamour Puss" for me. He looked at me like I was a nut. I said "just wait, it's hell gettin old! At least I didn't ask you to change my diaper". He handed me the lipstick and ran. My friend walked away and pretended like she didn't know me. Life is short-- you gotta laugh!!!!!

I had the big change in my left eye - but it was from the coils probably laying on my ophthalmic artery! I had been getting by with regular glasses for several years, but after the annie, I had to go with lineless (vanity) bifocals - just could not avoid it! My vision has basically changed a little with every visit I make (every 6 months with my history, she said). Worse side always being the left. She expects it and isn't surprised by it.

I had a SAH and lost my vision for 4 months. I have had 2 surgeries to restore my vision but my vision has not been what I had hoped for. My peripheral vision is poor, things look wavy, which has affected my balance and things are also blurry. They actually got a little worse than they were after the initial surgeries. I am developing a cataract on the right. I am currently wearing $19.99 reading glasses from Walgreens on a $2.00 black cord around my neck and look like a giant dork but I cannot see up close without them. I am using drops for the swelling in my eye and hope by the end of September to know how much vision I am going to have and to get some glasses. My family are always poking fun at me because my eyes look huge behind these lenses but I am grateful to have any vision. Love your story about the lipstick, I laughed out loud. Rose

Hi Lori,
Like Rose, I had a rupture/SAH and lost the vision in one eye almost completely (could just see light and dark). Three eye surgeries later (including cataract surgery) I can see again, but there's a residual blurriness that I'm resigned to now. I've also lost some peripheral vision. But I was 50 when I ruptured and I've worn glasses since I was 10. My vision started to deteriorate at 40 and I was told it was perfectly normal. Suddenly I couldn't read the fine print on medicine bottles. I'm convinced that's what kids are for! :D

For 10 years I've had those blended bifocals that are really 3 distances. They're more expensive and they take some getting used to, but if you hang in there, they work really well. Actually the middle distance (perfect for the computer) works the best! I still have trouble with close work like sewing.

I also loved your story about choosing the lipstick. Needed a laugh, thanks. Good luck to you. You sound as if you have a great sense of humor, and that always helps in recuperating from an illness.

Hi,
My vision hasn't changed after my clipping. I remember that each year after I turned 40 my eye doctor would ask if I was having trouble seeing close up yet. When I said "no" he said "you will". I found it quite irritating. Well, the week before my yearly appointment, when I was 43, I found myself holding a paper at arm's lenght to read it. Early 40's is a very typical time to start needing those bifocals. :(
