Dear BrainTalk Community members

My name is Jun and I am a 22 year old who is in University at this present moment. When I was around 1 years of age, I had a stroke which affected the left temporalparietal lobe of my brain. This has left me with right paralysis. Growing up, this brain damage has never really caused me a great deal of worry, but starting in my university years, I have slowly become more worried about what I am capable of doing in terms of physically and cognitively. As well, as of my Gr 10 year in high school, I began to have grand mal seizures which last about a minute as continues to re-occur to this day (about 1ce a month). Currently I have been experiencing a great deal of difficulty in learning in university. I am very committed to studying but have a great deal of difficulty memorizing/ retaining the material that I study. No matter how many time I read the material, trying to bring together the big picture is very difficult. I dont know whether it is just my technique of studying which is bad, so if anyone with a similar disability, or otherwise a good technique, I would love to hear from you.

Thank you very much for hearing my story

Jun

Dear Jun,
What remarkable timing. We, at the epilepsy forum, are Just talking to a person who's returning to studying at the university level. He is having some of the same difficulties that you're experiencing, and many have given him tips to help him with learning and studying. Here's the link to his questions and other's answers.

Another person with epilepsy who has many study tips, particularly about math, is named Annie. Here are some of her tips http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10675
and http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10726

I'm sure that if you voice your concerns there, at the epilepsy forum,

,so many will be glad to meet you and to help you.
