Hey-lep!! Am starting to go into a flat spin as my MVD (teflon-removal really) is on Monday! Any calming down tips??? ;)

Am as much stressing about them bumping me because there are no beds than the op itself!!

Went shopping fro pjs and stuff this morning, had a large coffee and next thing I knew I felt as though my soft palet (sp) had frozen and I couldn't talk or breathe properly!! Even after rescue remedy and aconite I'm still nervy, though better!!

I do know I'd doing the right thing but the added potential of complications from a 3rd op are becoming larger and more glowering from less than a week away!   The only complication I have had in my last two was severe pain, but hopefully I have that one sussed - drug-wise.

Sing me a lullaby someone??

Big hugs

niki, i'm glad you're better! I really feel for you and i'm sending massive hugs to yoy ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))!

I wish I had some magic dust to make everyone's pain disappear! Geesh, this condition #@*&^*!

right now i have a sick puppy and can't figure out the cause. she keeps throwing up???? she eats grass, then throws it up a lot later. lasst night she sounded like a horse grazing and i know they sometimes do that to settle their stomachs, but to mimic ahorse is pretty impressive. so tonight is straight kibble and i may throw in some rice and see what happens!

take care niki and kkep us posted!

Hi Nikki
I can certainly relate to your anxiety. I was a complete basket case....TWICE! The first time, I went to the hospital prepared and got bumped. It was horrible. In the long run it worked out better though, because as I left the hospital after they had put in my IV and everything, I got my period and in hindsight the thought of having a period and brain surgery in the same week in not appealing.
Kathy's doctors gave her relaxation drugs to take before her MVD and I think that was great! I wish I would have even thought to ask for some. It would have made the days prior to the procedure a more pleasant experience. So thats my answer to you, DRUGS! Dont be shy, get some adivan or valium or something like that and it won't seem so bad.
Good luck, I'll be thinking of you.

Niki,

Good luck - hopefully, the third time'll be the charm!

I have always had anxiety problems. Life has been particularly challenging lately, and my neuro wrote me an RX for alprazolam last week - it helps a lot, and doesn't make me too sleepy or slow. It was really a very pleasant surprise how well it works. Might be worth a try for the short term.

I'll be thinking of you - let us know how it goes as soon as you can.

Love,
Jan

Hi Niki,
Although, I haven't gotten as far as an MVD as yet, I know I would be a bag of nerves (no pun intended) too.
Ask your GP for some valium, I take it before I'm going to the dentist or for instance when I went for my MRI scan, it will relax you a little and as Ella said will make the last few days a little easier to get through.

I'll be thinking of you next week and my fingers firmly crossed for you.
You know my number if you want to chat over the weekend.

Love Tracy.x

Thanks guys!

Am calmer today - have things to do so distraction is good! The rescue remedy etc is working well so far, but I WILL need something once at the hosp! I took a sleeping pill last night which is based on the valium-type drugs. Thanks for your suggestions!

I had my period last time I was in hospital - had a catheter in and everything - a horrid experience and one I would NOT recommend!!! This time THAT won't happen unless I get bumped for 4 weeks!! ;)

Hugs

Only a few more days, so do whatever it takes to make them pleasant ones - although I've never taken any of the meds people are suggesting, I think that might be just the thing to get through the last bit of time. I always found myself so darn busy getting all the arrangements made so that my work would carry on while I was away that I pretty much didn't have time for the tension and worry about the surgery. I think my worst day was once when I went in for a full day of pre-op just prior to the big day and found that I was going from one waiting room to another with the same bunch of people (the blood room, the ekg room, etc etc) and every single patient had a companion of one or another age or sex or relationship - except me. I had a hard time that day, being all alone and starting to fret. I would have been glad for some calming pill that day. When I got to my room, at last, I found that a friend had been there and dropped off some books for me; right on top of the pile was "On Death and Dying". Holy moly, what a day.

I'm sure thinking of you even though I'm so far away, and I'm concentrating on this being the solution to pain! Tons of love, Niki - Nancy

Niki!

Valium could be the ticket! Then a nice long ride could also be distraction enough. Rest assured i'll be sending tons of positive energy your way and my thoughts and prayers will be with you that this will be successful for you. Treat yourself to all things you really like this weekend and keep us posted when you can.

Hugs, E

Hey Fizzbw,
Not sure when your surgery date is, but I am sending healing vibes and hugs your way!
I journalled and wrote letters to my family before the surgery, bit morbid perhaps, but it settled my mind. I also listened to relaxation CD's, of the ocean and calming music, that sort of thing.

You are a pro at this, it sounds like your doc knows what he is doing, think positive thoughts and it will be over before you know it.

But just in case you still need it,
"Lullaby, and good night, go to sleep little baby..."

Hey Nicki -- also not sure when your surgery is (was), but lots of good thoughts are coming your way. Just remember to breathe in and out - sometimes just concentrating on that when all the craziness is coming in at you can be very calming (from my yoga days). Drugs are good, too, though! All the best.
