Wellll, guess who's NOT having surgery today???

Yep. Don't worry, more will be revealed.

I got there to spend a bit of time with Herself before they took her down to prep her. She already had the electrodes on for muscle and nerve stimulation, and her head looked like some demented bingo player had pounced it...<G> That was apparently so they knew where to place more electrodes.

The neurophysiologist came in to check placement and get a signed consent (signed by *me* - smart man!). Okay, fine.

The anesthesiologist came in and told us that she was very concerned about some changes in Sharon's EKG (you know, the one I was told was NORMAL LAST NIGHT??????????) that she felt needed to be checked out before putting Sharon through such an intense procedure (long, fairly involved, includes harvesting bone, which is a stress in itself). She was trying to reach the neurosurgeon and take a look at Sharon's old records. Turns out she did the anesthesia when Sharon had her trach put in! :) She's very nice, and thank goodness SOMEONE was paying attention! The surgeon said he thinks they're old changes and not a problem, but he's deferring to the cardiologist. I know she's got that bad carotid stenosis that's not been dealt with, so it's possible Sharon *does* have some additional blockage that need fixing. It hasn't been checked since 2004, durihng the beginning days, when they found the carotid stenosis. Hey, I'd rather have this done now and surgery later than have her have a heart attack on the table and die.

When I left, no one had a friggin' clue. How unusual. NOT. :( She might have to move to the cardiac unit, she might not. She might have an echo. She might have an arteriogram. She might have a pharmacologic stress test (which I have specifically asked to be present during, since Sharon is aphasic and they don't know her well enough to know if she's having problems) (no Mikki equals no stress test, period). She might need catheterization and stenting.

The surgeon said he might not be able to do the surgery until *next* Tuesday...so she'll be in the hospital for a bit longer.

Sigh. I miss having her at home!!!!! (so do the puppers and kitties!)

He did say he's going to order a foot and ankle brace for Sharon, and he was FINALLY impressed with her recovery!!! Geeeeez... He said the big toe and that side of the foot seems much stronger, so hey, who knows how much stronger she'll be after another couple of days or so of bed rest??? :)

I have to take some T-shirts for Sharon to wear under her brace. There's a nasty bruised area on her left side that's been rubbed nearly raw by the stupid thing.

Okay, that's where we are now. No one knows what's going on, and I will let y'all know what's going on as soon as I have anything to report.
