Oh My Carlie Jae

I remember when
I was pregnant
With you
Waiting Waiting Waiting
With my full big belly
We named you Carlie Jae Suzanne
I wanted you to have green eyes and red hair

With your long overdue journey to
Our world
Your Daddy said to me
"It's Carlie"

You latched on right away
You were hungry after
Such a long while in my womb

I brought you home
Feeling happy that you were healthy
And that you were mine

Time flew by and you grew
Your tiny beauty blossoming every moment.

My heart big with pride
Because I knew there was something
Extra special about you
And
Everyone who met you
Showered you with adoration and love

Then, one day
"How could this be!"
My baby. My precious baby
My perfect baby was born with a severely damaged brain
Oh how I cried when I heard this news
my heart ached for you
And my heart ached for your daddy, too.

I took a big breath
Accepted the news
And went on watching you grow
Watching you flower

Then, you were almost two
Standing and you could play
with your tiny hands you loved to
put tasty things in your mouth

While having to sleep with me.
your mommie
every night

One summer night, hot with fever, you began
shaking, your breath labored.
In the E.R. they called you "the seizure baby"
Thereafter, frequent trips to ER
became standard in your little life.

You started slipping away -
your mouth closed to food and drink

Yet, your Mommie and Daddy
Kept seeking answers
Kept hoping for a miracle

To be continued....

I read this poem at my daughter's funeral as a tribute to her life

Oh My Carlie Jae

I remember when
I was pregnant
With you
Waiting Waiting Waiting
With my full big belly
We named you Carlie Jae Suzanne
Hoping that you would have green eyes and red hair

With your long overdue journey to
Our world
Your Daddy said to me
"It's Carlie"

You latched on right away
hungry after
Such a long while in my womb

I brought you home
Feeling happy that you were healthy
And that you were mine

Time flew by and you grew
Your tiny beauty blossoming every moment.

My heart big with pride
Because I knew there was something
Extra special about you
With your red curly hair and big green eyes.
Everyone who met you
Showered you with adoration and love

Then, one day
"How could this be!"
My precious baby
My perfect baby was born with a severely damaged brain
Oh how I cried when I heard this news
my heart ached for you
And my heart ached for your daddy, too.

I took a big breath
Accepted the news
And went on watching you grow
Watching you flower

Then, you were almost two
Standing and you could play

While having to sleep with me.
your mommie every night

In the E.R. they called you "the seizure baby"
Thereafter, frequent trips to ER
became standard in your little life.

You started slipping away -
your mouth closed to food and drink

Yet, your Mommie and Daddy
Kept seeking answers
Kept hoping for a miracle

Sleeping by your bedside
Day after Day
Weeks slid into months
And then you were home again,
Slightly modified

the tremors had disappeared
and we breathed a sigh of relief

You entered School
You were three
Riding in your special chair

But, sadly, the magic was only temporary.

Still, we never stopped searching
Hoping for an end to these
Terrible tremors

To be continued...

:)I once went to school with a young lady who was 16years old she had cancer but the thing that has stayed with me is what she said on her dying bed with family gathered around her." Daddy dying's not so bad but it's how we look at it" She was a wonderful christain girl. I will be praying for you. becky harris
