The "fitting" is officially complete: Mission Accomplished :D.
I had a 1.5-hour lesson/testing 1-2-3 my swing and making sure I am really a "Leftie." (Some Lefties can golf as Righties and, when possible, there is a tendency to persuade Lefties to go Right - because clubs can't be bought off-the-rack, so-to-speak ;)). I'm Leftie - no way, no-can-do right-handed.
The man who worked with me was super, super nice. He asked, "Do you have any brothers? Would you like to have one?" He was asking for himself; the silly man .
He fitted me for women's clubs, but is modifying them by using some things done for men's clubs. My darn'd high club head speed - me and Tiger (http://www.scigolf.com/scigolf/myths/myth7.htm) :D. He's making a 7 (wood) and 6, 8 and pitching irons. He'll make the rest as needed: graphite shafts, titanium heads, and ... in pink and gradiant lavender.
The cost? $276 (on my cousin's tab). The fun? Priceless.
The "parts" are supposed to arrive from AZ by Friday. My clubs should be ready in two weeks.
He gave me the name of a Pro whom he recommends for disabled golfers; the guy videotapes the lessons and gives the tape to the each golfer (for review and practice).
Yesterday was the first time in a couple of years that I wore shoes, but I took my sandals as a "back-up" in case things just didn't feel right. And, whatta y'know... Someone told me that there are sandals made these days actually intended for use in golfing. Guess what I'm getting ;).
I was beat by the time I got home and: I don't think I've smiled as much - as I did yesterday - in a long, long time.

Bobbi,
It's good to "hear" the fun in your "voice.
Heck I don't want to know if you have a brother, do you have another cousin !?

:D Linda :D
I could always use another cousin.
I spoke to the one tonight, whom arranged for the fitting. He's happy as can be that everything has worked out so far. He was a bit ... uhmm ... surprised. Sticker shock is what I think that's called. What does the guy want? He got a discount :p.
He's also a Leftie, yet isn't accustomed to the pricing when it comes to "made to fit" and "ordered as needed." But, he's cool with it. He has been most generous, and I truly do appreciate what he's doing for me. I would never be able to do this myself; I have a million other things I need my money for - such as a new laptop and stuff for my house (refrig. repair, new flooring, and on and on and on).
I suspect we're going to have a great time when golfing; I always crave certain foods when on a course, so I'll cover that end of things :).

It sounds like you are having a BLAST!!! GOOOOO BOBBI!!!!! It must be all those fabulous home grown veggies that are giving you all the energy to take on such a sport. Hit a couple balls for the forum!

Well, I'll up the ante: I'll make sure that, at least once, there is a photo of some putt happening with me wearing my BT hoodie. That way, you all will know for sure: It's meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Yet... I am still so wiped out from the fitting event. I got up early today, but was back asleep by 9 a.m. If I remember correctly, this is what happened with my last lesson. I slept for (around) 3 or 4 days afterward.
I am determined to golf, in this new realm of my being. That's for sure. Whether I do well or not? Ahh well but I will make a "statement": Never say never.
I have a goal to have fun and, if it becomes more serious (as some have told me it could be with my fast little zippy swing speed) cool. I just want "to be noticed" and not written off when it comes to sports.
I've spoken about this very topic with my chronic pain mngmt. counselor, and she's all for it.
So now... I just see how it goes and take it lightly where warranted but also want to kick a$$ when it comes to ABs. I just get so tired of being looked at as if "oh, I'll give you some space." Like please, do yourself another favor. This is gonna be funnnnn! I can either take a positive ride toward my goals or ... well, that's just not deserving of my attention.
This is for "us."
Gosh Bobbie, I am down-right pleased with you.:D I tried taking on Golf about 10 yrs ago. My brother ran the pro shop at a golf course. When it was slow he worked with me. He also saw I need a left whatever. I'm right handed, but when I used to play softball I always had to bat left handed.
Anyway, Brother was about to clobber me but he knew I could not do some things. Had to quite because back got worse, MUCH worse.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'm glad for you and if I see a little pink thingy on a head I will duck until I pass the course, or do you scream loud "get out of my way"??:p Jo

Fore!!!!! :D Consider that your warning that there's a wayward ball, Jo ;).
Generally, I'm ambidextrous. But... when it comes to sports (golf, bowling, darts, archery, which I no longer can do and miss, tossing a football, etc.), I'm as you are: Everything is done left-handed or it just doesn't work for me.
My former instructor, cardiologist and I came up with a possible theory: Because I haven't peripheral vision in my right eye and don't have depth perception, we think that, maybe, my left compensates. Just something that happened by nature.
That musta been cool having a brother who ran the Pro Shop. I could spend all day in one. I have a friend in AZ who used to work in the Pro Shop, and she was going to help with ordering clubs, etc., but, since she no longer works there (after getting married), the plan had to be revamped.
There is a tool I've been checking out; it's like a reacher and it sets the tees and balls. After I have my "starter" clubs and decide on a new instructor, a friend is going to help me with getting the adaptive tools. That'll be fun, too.
One of my doctors, whom I see for CP pain management counseling is happy about the golfing. I'm going to be so thrilled to get the call that my clubs are ready for pick-up. I will be sure to take some photos of them :D.
Aaaahhhhh Bobbi, it's wonderful to hear of another woman golfer! Especially one so excited about just playing... :) Someone after my own heart.
Sadly I haven't golfed in 4 years due to cervical spine problems, but golfed for about 10 years before that. (I'm 38.) That is one of the things I miss the most... so much... I would golf several times a week all season...
So I really look forward to hearing about your exploits and the fun that you're going to have! :D You deserve it! And it's heart-warming that someone who suffers with with CP is able to golf! You go girl!

Tiva, I'm sorry that you're not able to golf any longer :(.
I probably shouldn't be (C-spine through SI joints is not a pretty picture), but... so far, my docs are behind the plan. "If it hurts," so say they, "stop."
I just got the call I've been waiting for; all of the parts have arrived from AZ and my clubs are being made today and should be ready tomorrow afternoon.
The Pro/shop owner making them said: "They are quite an array of pink." And, to that, I offered my empathy: "I hope you aren't blinded." He said, "Oh my god, they are bright pink. I've never seen anything like them." :D Way awesome. Mine definitely will not be mistaken for anyone else's clubs.
I think I've decided on the color-scheme for my bag; I want aqua green, pink and lavender.
I envision I'll be taking a few swings tomorrow - so he can make any needed adjustments. After that, it's off to the driving range (on Sunday); there's a small town fair I want to also go to tomorrow.
:D I'm happy for you Bobbi. You make me want to drag all the stuff I didn't get to use much. I like your color scheme though. I'll have to think of one that is eye catching:p
The guys will have something new to torture me for. They try to head for the bar when they see me coming:eek: Tell you the truth, I just know they were doing lousey and needed to have an excuse to "cool down" at the bar.
Oh how I miss those days. My brother and I would spend a big part of summer with some of our grand's up at his place . We were his "guest". lol I was always on the look out for those balls flying right into the pool:eek: Like I said, I shore do miss those good times. I'm enjoying your adventure's.
Ain't life grand when you have all your "parts still working:eh? Don't slip and fall right off the bat!:D *boogie Boogie
Tiva, didn't mean to leave you out. You're right about the women. They were starting a Lady's Day just before I fell the last time!! Well, we can still dream about it and have fun with Bobbi's " ((still working parts))

Ohhh, so they had to take respite at the 19th hole, eh, Jo .
I didn't ask the man what color he finally chose for the club heads (since he couldn't order the pink/silver combo he and I selected - only available to righties). I'm trusting his selection; he definitely knows that pink/lavender is my pref.
After I've got the clubs home, I'll take some photos.
When you folks did golf, had you heard of sandals being made for golfing (rather than full-fledged shoes)? A friend told me that golf sandals are now available and suggests I get those - since I tend to always wear sandals (even in Winter) because they're easier for me to put-on and are much more comfy in my chair.
Bobbi,
Your friend was right… there are golf sandals available. I’ve seen them before (however, I’ve never seen anyone wearing them). A PM is on its way with lots of links with sandals and various slip-on golf shoes… I hope there’s something there that looks comfortable, doable (easy on & off), and stylish to you … that you can find for a reasonable price as well.

Tiva, whatta PM you sent! Knocked the li'l golf socks right off my feat :D. It is such good info. you've offered. I thank you so very much.
I got my clubs yesterday as planned. The Pro whom made them said, when I called to see if they were ready for pick-up : "They look good enough to lick." I told him, "Feel free." :) A percentage of the "sale" did go toward B. Cancer research; I kinda sorta thought I heard him say that that was possible only I wasn't sure if that would be the outcome, since I did leave it to him to make the clubs "pink." I see he did what was "right."
This is a photo of my clubs (taken late yesterday) ... and the lighting just sucked; it was not good for depicting the "true" hues of my clubs - which are vibrant pink and lavender in full sun. I will try again with P. Panther cover and some balls (I do mean golf balls) tomorrow:

Bobbi - your golf clubs are awesome! I LOVE PINK!!!!
Very cool!!:D
Now those clubs are cool! I wonder if that combination of grips and shafts has ever been done before? You won't be leaving those green-side!
And ooohhhh I just love the look of newly gripped clubs... I can practically feel them from here! I want to test them out so badly! And from that picture... I can't tell that the clubheads are reversed! :D
Bobbi, You're very welcome for the PM. :)

Thank you Lisa & G.G. :) I'm sorta hooked on pink. To me, it's just a happy color.
Tiva, it's interesting that you mentioned leaving clubs; a friend told me about people doing that sometimes. I couldn't imagine how so that can happen, but... I suppose it does.
I just needed mine to stand out; I get frustrated as heck when I get confused and want to know which clubs are mine at-a-glance. (When I was in Sausalito, I had noticed all the bike rentals and bikes parked while people rode the ferries. Beats me how each person knew which bike rental was theirs; the bikes all looked the same. I kept that in mind while making the club selection.)
Since I've not been around very many women golfers, I don't know if others may have the same clubs . I hope not.
I tried again with the photo-taking. This time? A model was utilized :D:

Still, the lighting just isn't right for showing the "true" colors of the clubs. Oh, well; I tried my best.
Because I don't want search engines indexing the photos or archiving them, I'm going to edit out the link later (24 hours to do so on BT); I don't want to pester a mod. with doing it for me. If you miss the photos (after I remove the link) but want to see them, just PM me later and I'll share the link.
