Hello!
I am an OLD member that has never signed back up after the crash....
I have been on pain control for 4-5 years and have decided it is time to come off the pain meds for now.
I was on Avinza 180mg daily and 8 15mg roxicodes daily...
I am off the Avinza completely now and need to wean myself off the roxicodone,
I have heard that there are a few drugs that can help but I cannot remember the names...
One of them is Valium of course and the other one started with a C ??
Clodine??? something like that?/

Can you help me?
Is there anything that can help me wean off quicker?
Thanks so much!!!

Hey Puddinhead! Good to see you back around here. I'm sorry you're having trouble with withdrawling from your medications. I think the one med you're thinking of is clonidine. It helps with the DTs that come with withdrawls and controls any BP changes.. I've also heard that benadryl can be helpful for the allergy-like symptoms that people have when tapering, but I would check with your doc first.

Good luck sweetie!

Hi Kathy,

I hope that by going off your pain meds it means that you are doing much better.

It was a real shock to see your user-name on a thread, (a pleasant one) and I hope we will hear more from you.

Good luck and like Theresa suggested, I hope that you are doing this with your Dr's care..

You are probably thinking of Klonopin/Clonidine which is in the same benzo family as valium/diazepam.. Each person is going to be weaned at a somewhat different pace.. good luck

Klonopin (generic name clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine.

Clonidine (brand name Catapres) is an alpha-2 agonist and used for decreasing sympathetic nervous system activity (ie lowering BP, heart rate, etc).

Different drugs with similar names. I think both are used in management of opiate withdrawal... I know clonidine is.

(Another med with a similar name is clozapine (brand name Clozaril), which is an older antipsychotic. Clozapine isn't used for opiate withdrawal).

Thanks for correcting me ... I shouldn't write early in the AM .. before I have had my Mountain Dew :-)
