Steve,
First of all, allow me to thank you on behalf of all for your learned advice.
Next, I have been seeing my current PM doc for 1 year. I have never had a problem receiving adequate meds to cover whatever my ailments were/are at any given time. In fact with my current doc prescribes too much. That's right, in the last 12 visits I've had to rebuff his attempts at raising my meds 5 times. The slightest indication that I've had a bad month and he's 'upping' my scripts.
If he had his way I'd be on two or three times the amounts I'm on. On my dear mothers' grave I speak the truth.

I just read what I typed and it sounds almost unbelievable, particularly considering that most people have the opposite problem.

My question is this.... Is there any reason why this doctor would have an aversion to writing for some sort of sleep aid? I've briefly brought up the fact that at least 2 or 3 times a month sleep is a problem for me for a few days at a time. I asked if he could write me a script for 6 or 8 tablets so I can maintain some normal sleep patterns. He just ignores me.

I have to be honest and tell you that it baffles the crap out of me. This "doctor feel good" wont write for ambien or whatever but he'll write enough schedule 2's to knock a horse over.

I appreciate any help you may offer

Pain free days,
Pete

Docs are just like the rest of us .. they have their quirks.. On the next visit.. I would just make sure that you have his attention and ask him point blank.. his rational behind his thought process... of not offering - or even discussing - the option of some sort of hypnotic for you... Most docs are on such a time crunch that some seem to hyper-focus on your primary reason for being there and seem to "zone-out" on anything else.

Hi Peter,
I agree with Steve, ask him point blank and don't let him ignore you or change the subject and get an answer as to why he won't. I would bring it up the very first thing of the appt. and stay focused on it until you have an answer.

Some pain docs don't like to write scripts for sleep meds and may want your primary doc to do it. My pain doc was like that until I lost my primary care doc and now he does it for me for Ambien.

Take care,
Diandra

Hi,
Thank you guys for the advice. I'll give your suggestions a try and see what happens. This is, of course, if I remember. I don't even think about it until I have a problem so if I remember, I'll just be blunt. Non-confrontational, but firm. Thanks again.

Pain free days,]
