View Full Version : Earth Quakes...
Cry Tears

I live in Oregon. I've been in touch with another BT freind also living in the Pac North West
and I've been telling her I feel we're in for a huge earthquake any day now and I'm afraid of them.
I've studied Geology in college recently...striving for a degree in Geology, but too fatigued...anyway...
I learned too much to feel safe as we live in the most volital place on earth!
Oreongs earth quake history makes California's look like play.
Off our coast are 3 plates all diverging UNDER the North american plate.
Once these plates begin squeezing down, theyve been under tremendous pressure for eons...
and once they "ramp up" it could set off a catastrophic earthquake in our area.
We've just had another sizeable quake off the coast here in Oregon, not felt here on land as we're not on the same plate.
I'm scared and worried for all who live here in the Pacific North West.
So if I'm correct in this...guess I'll be off line for awhile if we have damage.
Maybe I'm just being too "spooked" and running around like chicken little crying the sky is falling! Hope I'm wrong!
Blessings, cheryl
Here's a link to the USGS map that shows the earthquakes we've had in the last couple of hours.

I feel the same way Crytears. Just check out our area here near the Mississippi River near Memphis! They say it not a case of if but when. Something to think about and prepeare for. I've let my supplies go and need to restock.

I guess all those off shore earthquakes is what had my inner peace stirred up as I'm very earthquake sensitive...I can hear them well before we feel them.
So I guess I was feeling or hearing those off shore ones a few days before they hit...I'm no longer having the anxiety I was feeling about them before they hit.
But its odd we've been having earthquakes across the US in places that never has them....scary! Hang on!
They say when you start feeling an earthquake to stand under a beam...I say grab some Jim Beam, hang on!...is ok to pass the bottle around as long as you have enough to share...no worry about germs! The alcohol will kill any germs!...cheryl

Cher, I keep that link handy that you gave me once (maybe you could post it here?)
anyway I was checking it out yesterday just for my curious mind-this was mid afternoon our time, there had been 2 earthquakes within the hour! Both in CA. There were over 600 throughout the world! It's interesting.....
And the mine collapse in Utah, not where you'd expect an earthquake right? Well even though the mine owner keeps insisting it was a quake that caused the collapse the experts insist this is wrong!
I've heard that goats are receptive to earthquakes, not sure where I picked up this bit of knowledge but since I've never owned a goat nor been close to one when I've experienced quakes, I have no idea if this is true. Nowadays I do happen to live next door to a goat tho! If it starts bleating repeatedly I'll let you know!
Glad to hear you've gotten over your anxiety about this,we cannot live our lives in daily fear of the "big one".

Do you all have a cheap back pack in the trunk of your car containing a week's worth of your daily medication, some coins for phones or food machines, a large bottle of water, a change of underwear, an old sweat shirt or jacket? I include a small bar of soap, washcloth and hand towel, toothbrush, and old pair of glasses.
Your car is almost always where you are and you may get stuck someplace other than your own home, at least for a few hours and perhaps as long as a week.
Don't let your gas gauge get much under 1/3 of a tank. Remember if the power is out, so are the gas pumps and the ATM machine.
Keep some folding money hidden in your car.
Fill those empty bleach bottles with water and put the date on with a black marking pen.
Just knowing you are as prepared as you can be, helps alleviate some of the worry and stress. We all have a cousins phone number in our directories so if the phone lines are down locally, we can check in with her on the East coast. Cheerio.
