Hi
Im Gerry, I was diagnosed with fibro about 9 yrs ago. I have taken 100 mg of amitriptyline for most of this time. I do sleep better but still wake in the am with pain. This past winter the pain has gotten worse so now am on a muscle relaxer and a low dose of pain med.. What I want to know is this.
When I am sitting quietly during the day and when I go to bed at night I feel like a tuning fork that has just been tapped. I dont think it is restless leg syndrom becouse they dont twitch or jerk. Just this humming, buzzing sensation. Mostly its in my arms, hands and feet and legs but its also in my torso just not as strong. This sensation was happening before I started on the extra med.s.
ALSO
Some days I take a nap and when I wake up I feel like everything inside me is shaking. It takes only a couple of minutes or so for it to stop. This doesnt happen when I wake in the morning. Just after a nap during the day.
Any ideas on what all this is?
Gerry

Hi Gerry and welcome to the forum.:) I'm sorry to hear that the fibro is giving you problems. I also have numbness/burning/tingling sensations that run through my legs, arms, and hands, but I've never had it in my torso. One thing I've discovered however is that everyone with Fibro is so different. Do you know what your underlying condition to this is? Have you brought this up with your rheumy?
I have alot more pain when I first wake up in the morning as well. I often lay day for a nap during the day and usually I don't feel as bad after the nap as I do in the morning.
I'm not a doctor but it sounds like maaybe you might need to see a central nervous system doctor. It sounds to me like there may be more going on with you than just the fibro, but then again, I don't know your underlying condition so it's possible that's causing you problems as well.
I hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi Gerry, and welcome to the Fibromyalgia Forum, here at braintalk. I wonder if the shaking and tremulous feelings you experience are a side effect of the amintriptyline. Tremors are listed as one of the side effects. Have you discussed this with the doctor that prescribed it for you? You might talk with him and see if slightly lowering the dosage might help the tremulous feelings subside. I know that you shouldn't abruptly stop taking the drug. It is the most common thing used for fibro because it helps with the sleep. My daughter took only 25 mgm for about 5 months and it seemed to resolve her sleep problems.

Do you get any kind of regular exercise? Those of us who have been regular posters here, over a period of time, all agree that some combination of mild, enjoyable exercise, a well balanced diet, adequate sleep, rest, and avoidance of stress, seem to be the most helpful in dealing with this condition.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 55 years ago. Medications caused more problems for me than they solved so I make do with some occasional aspirin if some pain is keeping me awake at night. I also swim .3 of a mile, 3x a week and have done so for about 25 years. It helps with the sleep. I have to be careful not to overextend myself and take on more than I can handle. That was a real challenge with a houseful of children but I did learn, sometimes through painful challenges, that I can say, "no." Cheerio.

Thanks for replying so soon.
Sorry its taken so long for me to get back on.
I talked to our family Dr. about the humming , buzzing feelings in arms and legs. She put me on the muscle relaxer. I need to get back to her and let her know its not working very well. The pain med. did nothing.

The shaking inside after a nap Ive been to chicken to tell her about. Partly becouse it just sounds so wierd.
I do get exercise. Wish I could swim. But I sink better than I float. so I have to do with walking. And now working in a large family garden.
Thanks again
Gerry
