Went back to see the neurosurgeon today. I have an operation date for July 26th - just 3 weeks away. Today I signed consent forms for the operation and for blood transfusion if required.

I asked him how many he has done, and he thinks on average about 1 per year for the last 20 years. Plus of course hundreds of other brain operations as well.

He will be doing a right hemisphere craniotomy (since I am right handed) - going in from the top - between the 2 hemispheres. There is a much better chance of removing all of the cyst and therefore less chance of it recurring.

My work contract ends on July 17th (2 weeks from now) so I will have a week to do the pre-admission stuff, meet the anesthesiologist, get blood tests done for matching etc.

I was going to ask my BIL to have my son stay with them for a week while I am in hospital. But I spoke to the Daycare Director and she says it would be better for him if he stayed at home and continued going to daycare - the idea being to keep things as close to normal routine as possible. I will probably need to get some caregiver service for my son just for the weekend as I know my spouse cannot deal with him all day for two days. I'm healthy and my son tires me every weekend. So now I will start doing everything that has been suggested on this forum - especially going to all my websites and writing down passwords and ID stuff for message boards, forums, email, online banking etc.

Hopefully if everything goes well, I could be home within 4 days. If not - then who knows.

Well it was only 5 days, but the operation was very successful.
The surgeon said he was able to remove all the cyst.

Stitches/staples due to be removed next week, and first follow up appt at surgeons sometime in Sept or Oct.

Hi (((Serenia_Saissa))),
You sound great. I am so happy that things went well for you. It sounds as if you are recovering quite well also. Remember to take it slow. Give your body and mind a chance to rest and heal.

Take Care, Dodi
